Welcome to Bookshelf Bombshells, the Internet home of book reviews with attitude.

This website came about after a review of the television show Game of Thrones appeared in the New York Times. The review hamfistedly and utterly incorrectly implied that genre fiction, in particular fantasy fiction, was a boy’s game, and that any self-respecting, book-reading female would never sully her mind or waste her time on such drivel, unless, of course, there was a great love story and some hot sex happening along with all that silly magic and pointless violence. Violence is icky. It breaks our nails.

Needless to say, this review was not received well by the female, book-reading, genre-fiction-loving masses, especially the ones who WRITE genre fiction and win an awful lot of awards for doing so. Twitter exploded, with the amazing and fantasy-loving Felicia Day leading at least one of the charges. Authors across all genres were displeased. Fans were livid. And we — we who would eventually become the Bombshells you see here — were pretty damn pissed ourselves. There was blogging. There was Facebook ranting. And there were more than a few instant message conversations where we spouted our vitriol and extolled the virtues of all our genre darlings, female and male. Ursula K. Le Guin. Ray Bradbury. Madeline L’Engle. Kathryn Kurtz. Stephen King. Marion Zimmer Bradley. Neil Gaiman. J. K. Rowling.

There were more, of course. Many more. And it was more than just fantasy. It got us talking about all the books we love, all the subjects we want to learn more about, all the stories we wish would continue forever. And we got to thinking about books and book reviews and the Internet, until one day, somebody said, “Why don’t we just do a book review site?”

So we did.

And it is good.

Welcome to our literary wonderland. Please, look around, check out our reviews and interviews, and come back often. There are a lot of books out there, and we probably have opinions on all of them.

Books are rated according to four grades: Buy It, Borrow It, Bypass It, and Bury It. Reviewers add their own interpretations of those ratings according to their own thoughts and opinions.

All of our reviews are honest and unadulterated. Every reviewer isn’t going to love every book; we serve our readers best by telling them what we honestly think. Tastes are subjective, and your mileage may vary.
