Worst Hangover Ever

Mason awoke with a slow groan, rubbing his temple to try and assuage the terrible headache he had. As he became more aware he also realized that he was starving, thirsty, and freezing. He had to check one thing first though. He opened his status and let out a long sigh of relief. Debuffs: N/A. The poison had fully run out. With that out of the way, he moved as slowly as possible, trying not to make his headache any worse. He grabbed his backpack and pulled out a blanket and his waterskin. He wrapped the wool blanket around his body and raised the waterskin to his lips taking small sips so as not to upset his stomach. Once he had his fill he took out some of his rations and started eating them while staring at the cacti near the entrance angrily. I swear I'll get my revenge someday cacti, mark my words.

Now, it was time to look at the elephant in the room. The giant flashing red exclamation mark that had been in the upper left corner of his vision since he's woken up. Feeling marginally better than he had when he woke up, Mason mentally clicked on the button.

  [Missed damage notifications: [-8HP] x9, [-6HP] x7, [-4HP] x7, [-2HP] x6]

Mason stared at this notification for a long time before releasing a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. Holy shit, unless I'm miscounting I went down to 1 HP. I got so close to dying. I need to be more careful in the future. Mason vowed to clear out the spines better tomorrow to ensure this didn't happen again.

  [Missed title notifications:

Survivor I -> Survivor II (Rare): Reach below 5% of your maximum HP twice in one day and survive

Survivor II -> Survivor III (Very Rare): Reach below 5% of your maximum HP three times in one day and survive

Analyzing... Due to other variables, your skill Survivor III is being considered for further upgrades

  Analysis complete.

Upgrade confirmed due to the following variables: One of the three near deaths was below 1% health, sentient is level 0, sentient is unranked, sentient was affected by a substance a rank higher than them, sentient did not receive outside assistance, sentient has been in the system for less than 24 hours

Survivor III will be upgraded to achievement tier

Lucky (Rare): Go down to 1 HP and survive. Effect: if you drop below 10% health you take no damage from the next hit you receive in combat.

Note: Does not work if you die in one hit, and has a 24 hour cooldown

Scrappy (Rare): Stay below 10% HP for 10 minutes. Effect: your HP regen is doubled when you are below 50% HP

Yeah, those are cool abilities, but I still don't think that was nearly worth the pain I went through yesterday. Actually was that yesterday? How long was I asleep for? Mason tried to find some way to check the time and noticed a little clock in the corner of his vision, it enlarged when he thought about it. Ok, it's 3:27 AM right now, my last damage notification was at 9:30 PM so I've been asleep for about 6 hours.

  [Missed achievement notifications:

Survivor III -> Cheater of death (Very Rare -> Epic -> Heroic): You survive on the brink of death again and again, you see death as an old friend, not something to be feared. Effect: Each point of vitality now increases your health by 15, not 10. Your base health has now been doubled to 200. Grants +10 VIT

Mason took a sharp intake of breath and leaned back against the wall of the cave. Holy shit! Maybe I should almost die more often, this is insane! I over doubled my Vitality and it's worth more. Mason stared up at the cacti then down at his hand, then at the achievement he got. Nah, still not worth it.

  [Missed skill notifications:

Poison resistance (Common): Increases the affect of VIT on resisting poisons by a small amount. Cost: N/A, Type: Passive

Novice Grit -> Inner Grit (Basic -> Common): You can brace yourself to reduce incoming damage. When activated grit grants a small boost to Endurances effect on physical damage reduction and some damage over time effects for 3 seconds. Cost 30 Stamina, Type: Active

Well I guess that answers how you get more skills. Mason had a lot of time to think on his walk yesterday, and he realized there were a lot more things he should have asked the Speaker but forgot. One of the things he realized he didn't know was how to get skills in the first place. obviously you could get them from a class, but outside of that he had no idea. I guess he figured it out now, though it was a painful lesson. Time to see how the new stat sheet is lookin'.

Mason stared at his new stat sheet in awe. His maximum health was almost triple it's original maximum, Vitality now his highest stat by far. While he was staring at his status sheet, Mason let out a long yawn. Man, I guess I'm still pretty tired. Who knew getting brought into a whole new multiverse and almost dying immediately would take it out of you. Following that shocking revelation Mason decided to sleep for a few more hours before heading out for the day.

Mason awoke a few hours later with a large stretch, still underneath his wool blanket. After drinking some more water and eating some rations for breakfast he started to put everything away in his backpack. However, as he was packing up, he realized that he couldn't find his last health potion anywhere. Shit, where is that thing. It's the last one I have and I have no idea how hard they are to get. After searching for half an hour Mason couldn't find it anywhere in the cave. He decided he would just have to go on without it.

When Mason reached down to grab his backpack, he saw something sticking out of the wall of the cave. Confused, he looked closer, it looked kind of like glass, he thought maybe it was some kind of crystal. Then he realized, no, it was glass. His health potion was partially inside the back wall of the cave. Standing there dumbfounded Mason reached out his hand to try and grab it from the wall. When he did something unexpected happened. His whole hand went straight through the cave wall.

Mason reached his hand in and out of the fake wall a few times to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. Well, here goes nothing. Mason grabbed his backpack, stepped through the fake wall and found... A wooden door? Well that was disappointing. Mason walked up to the door and tried the handle.

Mason scoffed upon seeing the level of the dungeon. Yeah I almost just died to a cactus, I think I'm ok to not enter the dungeon 10 levels above me. Turning around, Mason headed back to the fake wall and grabbed his health potion. That's weird, my health potion was fully on this side of the wall, I wonder how I saw it from the other side? Stuffing the potion into his backpack. Mason walked into the wall... and bounced right off of it. After making sure his nose wasn't bleeding, Mason walked back up to the fake "fake" wall and started running his hands along it. But no matter what he tried, he couldn't get the wall to let him through. Turning back to the door, Mason let out a long sigh. Well, surely whatever's in this dungeon won't be as bad as the cacti out there, right? After trying his best to delude himself, he walked back to the wooden door and touched the handle.
