Monster slaying

Mason crept along the corridor before stopping at another cave entrance, he was about a mile away from where he had killed the first rock spider. He looked around the corner and activated [Focused Sight]. He scanned the ceiling for any enemies and his eye caught on a stalactite, or was it stalagmite? He could never remember which was which. Scanning it closer, he could see the indents in the ceiling where the tips of the spider's legs were holding on.

After he recognized that the spider was there, he got a pop-up. [Rock Spider (Level 8)]. Then he started to scan the floor, there was one spider there, but he was fairly certain it was an illusion though it was hard to make out in the dim light of the cave. The way it was moving didn't seem natural, and it's steps didn't seem to make any impact on the floor at all.

He had a suspicion that there was a second spider here somewhere. While it may be possible that the one on the ceiling maintained its stalactite illusion, and the illusion on the floor, the spiders didn't seem that smart. He felt like they could probably only hold one illusion at a time, though that was just a guess.

He looked across the entire cave room trying to find anything out of place, his eyes starting to strain slightly from the intense focus when he noticed an odd rock formation in the left corner. He inspected it closer and saw what he thought was one big rock was actually 2 rocks next to each other. However, one of the "rocks" was the shell of a [Rock Spider (Level 6).

He must have been right, there would be no reason for this one to not hide itself with illusions if they could maintain two at the same time. Now, the question was, how was he going to deal with two at once. It was definitely possible, he was higher level now than he was when he fought the first, and one of them was lower level.

He would need some way to incapacitate the lower level one before dealing with the higher level one. Mason took a second to think before a smile spread across his face and he got himself ready, placing his backpack down outside the room so it wouldn't slow him down.

Mason rushed into the room, his increased Strength and Dexterity felt as he ran faster than he ever had before. The fake spider turned to him and charged but he completely ignored it and ran straight for the lower level rock spider. As he got close he got as low to the ground as he could without losing speed. He heard something slam to the ground behind him as he dashed past but he didn't stop.

The spider in front of him, seemingly realizing that something was wrong started to get up, but it was far too late. Mason rammed his hands underneath the spider and shoved with all of his momentum and strength. All of that was barely enough, but it worked, the low level spider was flipped onto its back and couldn't right itself again.

As soon as that was done Mason whipped around to face the now alone spider and pulled his sword out in front of him. He barely turned around in time, the monster already shooting forward towards him. He barely managed to sidestep it in time though it still clipped his shoulder causing his right arm to be nearly knocked out of its socket and his sword to fly away.

Mason choked down a shout of pain as he tried to keep his eye on the monster while walking over to his sword. He rolled out of the way of the spider launching itself at him and then dashed over and picked up his sword again, rolling his injured shoulder to see if he could still move it. It worked well enough for his needs.

He dodged another attack from the spider before coming up with an idea. He needed some way to stop it mid flight, but his sword would definitely break if he tried to hit it while it was flying at him. So what if he did the opposite? Mason tracked the spider in its flight and kept dodging, getting scrapes and bruises from near misses while he waited for the right time.

Finally, he was lined up perfectly. Right as the spider was flying straight towards his left shoulder, he rotated with it as it was flying by and hit the bottom of it with his sword like a baseball bat using [Power Strike]. The added momentum meant the spider couldn't stop itself in time and it crashed into the wall instead of landing safely.

Capitalizing on this moment, Mason ran over and chopped at the spider's legs, using [Power Strike]. As opposed to the first time he attempted this, his blade sliced through its legs with little resistance. After that, the spider was mostly helpless and it was child's play to finish it off. After that he walked over to the other hermit that was still trying to flip itself over pathetically and shoved his sword though its mouth hole the same as he did the first.

Mason looked at his stat spread and deliberated what stats to dump his free points into. He could invest fully into either Vitality or Resistance, but Strength was also pretty usefu- *SHUNK* Mason looked down at the giant hairy leg sticking through his abdomen, and silently screamed in agony before coughing up a mouthful of blood.

The leg started twitching, jerking around trying to throw him off, all that it accomplished in actuality was widening the hole in his stomach and causing him even more pain. Mason grabbed the hairy appendage and started trying to pull himself off of it. Slowly, so painfully slowly, he started sliding off as the monster continued to thrash around.

*POP* with a sickening squelching sound and a loud pop, Mason slid off the end of the leg and clutched at the hole in his abdomen. Slowly turning around, Mason looked at the monster before him. [Adult Rock Spider (Level 17)]

It was twice as large as its brethren, with much larger legs that looked to almost be scaled, though the hair still remained. The biggest difference was the head and pincers. The pincers were almost a foot long, and you could see the head inside of the shell, all of its eyes staring at Mason angrily.

Mason stared back into the spider's eyes filled with hate with just as much anger in his own and drew his sword. As if that was the starting gong for the fight Mason and the spider both sprung into action. Mason unsteadily stood facing the monster while the rock spider brought all of its legs out of its shell. *SCREEEE* The monster let out an ear piercing screech and charged towards him.

Mason stood still, knowing he couldn't run away with this wound in his stomach. The beast slammed into him causing him to rocket back into the wall. *CRACK* The wall shook form the force of his arrival, an indent left into its side. He fell down onto his hands and knees and threw up what little he had inside his stomach, his head throbbing.

[Lucky ability used, unavailable for the next 24 hours]

Mason staggered up just in time to throw himself to the side as the monster slammed into the wall behind him. The collision left a massive indent in the wall but unlike with the smaller versions, the bigger one was no worse for wear. The spider turned towards him, analyzing him, making sure it didn't miss its last charge.

Mason stood up slowly, his head throbbing, his wounds aching, his legs barely able to hold him up and he stared into the monsters eyes when he said his next words. "I'm going *pant* to kill you *pant* you stupid 8 legged rock." Mason stated. Then, he started charging towards the monster and it stood there stunned, not expecting the prey to run to it.

As Mason neared it, it shoved its head forward straight through his stomach and out the other end. *SCREEE* It let out a victory screech its victory assured in its eyes. But Mason didn't stop running. He rammed his sword in between the spider's pincers and into its face, then he stabbed it over and over again until he got the kill notification and after.

[Adult Rock Spider (level 17) defeated]

  [You reached level 11!]

"AAAGGHHHH" Mason let out a victory scream and fell down onto his back. The right pincer of the rock spider falling out of the already open wound in his stomach. "fuck you, you stupid spider" Mason slowly got onto his knees and crawled over to his backpack before drinking his last health potion.

  [Health potion consumed. +70HP]

The amount of HP gained was nothing now compared to his total, but it still closed his wound. As soon as he drank the potion, he passed out right on the floor of the cave.
