A month passed since I awoke as Luxanna Lunarwhisker.
Selina, my new mother, made sure I was well cared for, not letting me out of her sight for even a minute. Not that I minded.
I understood her, sympathetic to her feelings.
She almost lost her child…
She did lose her child.
But her memories live on as mine, now. I don't want her parents to worry. I'll live for Luxanna; I'll live a good life to make her parents proud, to make them happy.
It's the least I could do for inadvertently taking her body.
"Mama, the table is ready."
Since I've recovered physically, I've been helping with housework.
I was surprised at how quickly I regained my strength, but I chalk it up to different genetics. I'm not a human anymore, after all.
And the best part?
I can't eat vegetables!!
How cool is that?! Not only am I a catgirl, but we have the diet of a cat! An obligate carnivore!
Although, I do miss sweet things, like fruit. They have a nice texture, but their taste is so bland… mainly because I can't taste sugar. And if I eat a full fruit, like an apple, I'll get indigestion.
It's a shame, but I've always been a meat fan. Chicken, beef, and pork! The trifecta!
"Thank you, Sweetie!"
Mother set down large plates of various pieces of chicken. Drums, thighs, breasts, gizzards, feet. Even some cooked organ meat! The good thing about this world is the size of the animals I'm familiar with
Chickens are massive in this world!
…Disappointingly, though, the chicken liver always goes to Father, because he works.
Makes sense, though. The liver is packed with B vitamins. He'll need it to work as a soldier.
"Is Papa coming soon?"
Mother pinched my nose, noticing that my eyes were glued to the seared chicken liver in front of the seat my father took.
"Fufufu~ Are you waiting for him to give you some liver again?"
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
She set down the last plate on my end of the circular table. "He'll be home in just a minute. I can smell him at the gate."
I dash to the open window in the small living room and sniff the air.
The familiar scent of my father was carried in by the wind. "Oh, yeah!"
I keep forgetting how convenient this nose of mine is. It's also a curse because of how detailed the smell of all the scrumptious meats Mother cooks. And for other… unagreeable smells.
I find myself bouncing up and down once Father comes into view.
A bit embarrassing, that I'm this excited despite having the mind of an adult man. I can't help it! Father is a soldier, who can use magic!
Magic!
Something I absolutely dreamed of as a kid in my past life! Who wouldn't be as excited as a young child when it comes to actual magic?
I swung my hand high in the air, "Papa!"
The black-haired catman, Cat Furlians — as they are called in this world —, looked at me with a warm smile, his helmet tucked under his arm and a sword strapped to his waist.
I rushed to open the door and dashed into his arms.
"Hey! How's my little girl feeling today?"
"Better than yesterday!"
His rough hand ruffled my hair. "That's my girl! Hmm~ I smell chicken liver on you… You waiting for me to give you some, is that it?"
"No~!"
Father chuckled and entered the house, giving Mother a quick peck on her nose.
Honestly, I never expected I'd act this way to my new parents… I mean, it's kinda weird… a grown-ass man in the body of a ten-year-old girl… acting all cute and cuddly with other grown adults.
Well, Luxanna's love for her parents is way too infectious. My soul may have inhabited her body, but her heart is full to bursting with such pure emotions, that it's hard to resist.
So, I gave in. I don't want to force Luxanna's love for her parents out of her body, it isn't right. So I embraced it and I've never felt happier for it.
I loved it whenever Mother would hug me until I fell asleep. I love it when Father has a day off and plays with me when he shows me his swordsmanship.
I love it when we all lay in front of the fireplace and cuddle together under a thick, warm blanket.
This may not even be another world… it may just be heaven.
Though, I'd still prefer to have been a guy.
Oh, well.
"Papa! Will you teach me how to use a sword?"
Father blinked in surprise. "The sword? Didn't you say you wanted to be a chef?"
Oh, yeah. Luxanna was a foodie. Well, I've inherited that sentiment. Meat is delicious. But I'm still me, too.
The sword is absolute romance!
There's no guy out there who wouldn't take the chance to learn the sword in a world of swords and magic!
"Un! I want to learn the sword so I can hunt and cook it right after!"
Father chuckled at my reasoning, "Ha, well, I can't argue with that… but you're still too young to hold a sword…"
He stammers when he sees my pouting face.
"Ah— Er… well…"
He looked to Mother for help, but she seemed to be conveniently not listening as she washed the dishes.
"…I'll tell you what; I'll get a wooden training sword and teach you some of the basics. How's that?"
"Yay!" I kept out of my seat and gave him a great big hug. "I love you, Papa!"
"H-hehe~! Anything for my little girl…"
After spending a couple of hours cuddling in front of the fireplace, my parents tucked me into bed for the night.
Now alone, I look out my window. Tonight was a clear night. I could see every star in the dark sky, all shining brightly.
I stretch out my hand, but of course, the stars will always remain out of reach.
But even if I can't reach them, I can still become a star in this world, right?
Adventurers… if one can become a strong Adventurer, like an S-Rank, they'd be famous continent-wide.
It's a common trope in these isekai situations, isn't it? Becoming an adventurer. Well, this isn't some light novel I'm reading on the internet, this is my new life.
Even if it's such a stereotype in these kinds of stories, I'd still like to see the world, learn combat skills, eat good food, make friends…
"I wanna see everything this world has to offer…!"
