Ch 49 - Finishing up Comissions

Archie stared at the completed runic script in front of him with a smile. t to design.

  Iron Sheet (Common):

An iron sheet forged by Syllia Glynvyre, a D-Grade Expert Runesmith. A Thermal Regulator rune has been etched by Archie Gracefield, a Novice Forgesmith. This iron sheet was made for rune practice. Effect: Thermal Regulator. Status: Perfect.

  Iron Sheet (Common):

An iron sheet forged by Syllia Glynvyre, a D-Grade Expert Runesmith. A Thermal Amplification rune has been etched by Archie Gracefield, a Novice Forgesmith. This iron sheet was made for rune practice. Effect: Thermal Amplification. Status: Perfect.

Archie chuckled, pulling out a small chunk of Pyrestal ore. It was going to be the handle for the cutter while the tip would be made out of a small piece of Volthrinite crystal.

Placing the small chunk of Pyrestal ore into the heavy-duty tongs Archie relit his forge with his Forgesmith’s Flame

Archie quickly noticed that it wasn’t joking when the system said it has a natural resistance to fire. It took around thirteen minutes for it to even become slightly malleable.

After a while, Archie placed the now malleable Pyrestal ore onto his heavy-duty anvil and started to uniformly hammer it into a thin rectangle. Afterward, he moved it onto the horn of his precision anvil and lightly tapped it with his precision hammer.

After it took the shape of a small cylinder, Archie quenched the cylinder into the sea, taking notice that no cracks were formed. He then placed it atop the table before picking up the Volthrinite crystal with his precision tongs and holding it within the forge.

After a minute or two, the crystal started to glow red-hot. Archie quickly placed it atop his precision anvil and lightly tapped it into shape. The shape looked almost like a fountain pen’s nib, but the tines were wonky looking.

Archie contemplated as he formed two thin strings of mana.

As he lightly pushed against the crystal, the string simply went through it and made it glow slightly. He needed to make the mana strings stronger and focused on them physically forming the crystal tip into proper fountain pen tines.

With that in mind, Archie sent out thicker mana strings to push against the crystal. And this time it worked.

After letting it sit for a minute, Archie quenched the crystal tines into the sea, and as he did a burst of water splashed in his face. , Archie remembered.

Archie connected the Pyrestal cylinder with the Volthrinite pen tip and soldered them into place with his Forgesmith’s Flame

Archie took his time etching the Thermal Regulator and Thermal Amplification runes, however, instead of writing them separately he combined them.

Archie carefully formed their pathways to channel towards the Volthrinite tip and ensured that the resistors were properly adjusted to completely stop the mana flowing into the circuit once the tip showed any signs of melting.

After etching the runic script and seeing no fizzing from the magic ink or it vanishing, Archie smiled. He just made his first runic script.

Archie then quickly etched the Self-Repair rune and Soul-Bound rune atop the carver and Identified his new craft.

  Thermal Carver (Uncommon):

A carver in the shape of a fountain pen forged by Archie Gracefield, a Novice Forgesmith. This carver’s body is made of Pyrestal, and the tip is made of Volthrinite. Etched with the runes of Soul-Bound, Self-Repair, and the runic script of Thermal Convergence. The tip of the carver can generate large amounts of concentrated thermal energy once channeled with mana, thus allowing it to cut through most materials effortlessly. Effects: Soul-Bound, Self-Repair & Thermal Convergence. Requirements: Lv 60+ & Humanoid Race.

With that now made, Archie got to work on making the cams.

“I hope I don’t burn my fingers off,” Archie muttered as he powered the thermal carver on.

With the cams now completed, all Archie had to do was connect the risers and cams together with a limb on each side and set up the strings.

  , Archie thought.

Archie grabbed a few thin pieces of Cragforge ore, placed them in his precision tongs, and waited for it to turn red-hot. Archie then carefully placed it on the precision anvil and lightly tapped it into shape.

After forming the limbs, Archie connected the riser, limbs, and cams together, all that was left was to run the string through the pulley. Which he quickly did.

Archie picked up his runic scriber and etched the Soul-Bound and Self-Repair runes onto the riser but then flipped the riser and etched a custom rune onto the arrow shelf. Seeing the magic ink embed itself, Archie Identified his work.

  Cragforge Steel Compound Bow (Uncommon):

A metallic compound bow forged by Archie Gracefield, a Novice Forgesmith. Etched with the runes of Soul-Bound, Self-Repair and Lesser Piercing. All arrows fired from the bow gain an enhanced piercing effect. The Cragforge limbs can store the power of three full draws and enhance the fourth shot’s damage. Effects: Soul-Bound, Self-Repair & Piercing. Requirements: Lv 50+ & Humanoid Race.

Archie smiled at his work before sending it into his spatial ring and looking at his notifications.

Archie thought while taking out chunks of Magmasteel ore and a few pieces of Volthrinite crystals.

Reading the description of the Magmasteel ore once more, Archie got concerned.

Curious Archie grabbed a piece of Magmasteel ore, held it in his precision tongs, and placed it over the flame. After it was red-hot, Archie started to hammer the Magmasteel and with every strike of his hammer, he injected mana into the Magmasteel. Once it became uniform and in the shape of a sheet, Archie identified it.

  Magmasteel Sheet (Common):

A Magmasteel sheet forged by Archie Gracefield, a Novice Forgesmith. This Magmasteel sheet was imbued with very potent nature mana during its forging process completely erasing the Magmasteel’s natural Fire-Affinity. Status: Perfect.

“I thought as much,” Archie said, “I didn’t focus on channeling nature-attuned mana into the metal, yet, it still stuck to it... I guess I need to actively use my non-affinity mana, sounds obvious now that I say it out loud.”

Archie took out another piece of Magmasteel ore, and quickly repeated the process of hammering it into a sheet, but this time he consciously sent his non-attuned mana into the Magmasteel. Once it became uniform and in the shape of a sheet, Archie identified it.

  Magmasteel Sheet (Common):

A Magmasteel sheet forged by Archie Gracefield, a Novice Forgesmith. This Magmasteel sheet was imbued with mana during its forging process priming the Magmasteel’s natural Fire-Affinity. Status: Perfect.

“Okay,” Archie said, pulling out a chunk of Magmasteel, “Greatsword making time.”

Placing the chunk of Magmasteel into heavy-duty tongs, Archie held it in the forge and waited for it to turn red-hot.

Archie then placed it over his heavy-duty anvil and started to hammer it while imbuing the blade with non-attuned mana. After hammering the Magmasteel to form the hundred-inch billet, Archie chucked the billet back into the forge.

After seeing the red-hot glow cover the billet, Archie tossed it back onto the heavy-duty anvil and hammered it uniformly to be 1.5 inches thick, then flipped it to its side to keep it even and smooth.

Afterward, Archie took out his precision hammer and used the slanted edge as a chisel and his heavy-duty hammer as well…a hammer and cut the tip of the billet’s side, giving it a pointed tip and hammering it to keep its uniformity. He then started to hammer out the bottom, making the handle twenty-five inches long. Now with the blade almost done, Archie started to taper the blade’s edge.

After tapering the blade to have double-sided edges, Archie grabbed his thermal carver and carved about a quarter inch deep into the blade and forty inches long and it was half an inch wide. Archie thought.

Archie took out his crucible, placed the pieces of Volthrinite crystals in it, and placed it over the flame. After the crystals turned molten, Archie held it over the blade and steadily poured it over the newly carved-out section of the blade and waited till it hardened before he started to hammer it while infusing it with non-attuned mana, fusing it into the Magmasteel blade.

Afterward, Archie grabbed the blade’s handle and let it quench within the sea, seeing the water bubble and releasing a lot of steam, reminding Archie that he was going to be waiting for the blade to reach room….

“I think I made it a bit too Fire-Attuned,” Archie noted as he took out the blade from the sea and started to sharpen it. “The sea was bubbling for an hour straight when I dumped it in.”

After the blade was sharpened, Archie grabbed a small chunk of Magmasteel and placed it into the forge with precision tongs. Once it got red-hot, Archie then placed it on the precision anvil and hammered it uniformly three inches wide and five inches long.

Grabbing his heavy-duty hammer and placing it above his precision hammer Archie flipped the almost completed hilt on its side and created a hole wide enough to fit in the greatsword’s handle.

After quenching it into the sea, Archie slid it into the handle and soldered it into place with his Forgesmith’s Flame

Now with the blade basically complete, Archie placed the greatsword on the desk and started the final part of forging; rune etching.

Archie etched out the Soul-Bound and Self-Repair rune along the base of the rune and added a simple fire amplification rune.

  , Archie joked, semi-seriously.

  Volthrinite Magmasteel Greatsword (Uncommon):

A Magmasteel greatsword forged by Archie Gracefield, a Novice Forgesmith. Etched with the runes of Soul-Bound, Self-Repair, and Lesser Fire Amplification. The Volthrinite embedding enhances all attacks when imbued with fire-affinity mana. Effects: Soul-Bound, Self-Repair & Fire Amplification. Requirements: Lv 50+, Fire-Affinity & Humanoid Race.

“Nice,” Archie said, smiling at the description of the greatsword. “I even managed to keep it at level 50.”

Looking at his system notifications he ignored, Archie’s eyes widened.

Skill Evolved: [Basic Smithing Mastery (Common) → Mana Smithing Mastery (Common)]

Mana Smithing Mastery (Common):Mastery over the forge begins with understanding the basics. Now you have learned to channel your mana into your smithing, enhancing both the physical and magical properties of your craft. This skill allows for the crafting of various Common-quality mana imbued items. Adds a lesser chance to improve the effectiveness of crafted items based on Intelligence and Wisdom.

“Hmm,” Archie said, “It’s a good thing I got this skill now and before I started practicing forging cores.”
