Chapter 286

  Arena #5519

“What did this unranked civilization do to piss Helinor off so much that they decided to spend coins and directly challenge them?”

“I’ve heard they won against one of Helinor’s vassals, and now Helinor is out for blood.”

“How pitiful. A new civilization that didn’t know its place had to court death as soon as it entered the portal.”

“They can only blame themselves for inviting trouble when they are clearly not strong enough to handle it.”

The spectators’ stands, while not fully packed, still held at least millions of viewers, and their murmurs reverberated throughout the arena.

Despite Helinor ranking only in the 90,000s, they were at the peak of it and that was enough to attract far more people than Grenara, who ranked at the bottom, could have ever imagined.

While 9,000 places up the rankings might not seem like much in this case, it made a world of difference, and that disparity was reflected in the sheer number of spectators watching the fight.

Sitting in one of the stands, Celera stood quietly amidst a sea of people, but her eager eyes and clenched hands betrayed her excitement for the upcoming battle.

Hehe, just you wait, Earth. This is only the beginning. Once today is over, you’ll forever regret what you did to my civilization.

She chuckled inwardly, her lips curling upward as she stared at the massive screen in the center of the arena.

Meanwhile, none the wiser that a mortal enemy they didn’t even know existed was trembling with excitement at the thought of revenge, Erevan and Jack sat calmly beside one another.

“Why is he the one fighting again? Shouldn’t we take turns? Even if he was going to fight, we should’ve at least discussed it before coming to a decision,” Jack muttered, more to Erevan than to himself.

Letting out a sigh, Erevan said, “This is the fifth time you’ve said that since yesterday. What could I do? He just said he wanted to fight and then closed the call.”

“Also,” he continued with a slight smile on his face, “you should try looking on the bright side instead of fixating on these little things.”

Jack, unconvinced, skeptically echoed, “The bright side? What are you talking about?”

With an airy chuckle, Erevan leaned closer and said, “Why should we waste our energy fighting people when we can simply sit here and reap the benefits while he does all the work?”

“After all, we agreed to share all the rewards.” He winked.

“Shameless,” Jack exclaimed righteously, though he made himself more comfortable in his chair as a smile surfaced on his lips, his actions clearly not matching his words.

Patting him on the shoulder, Erevan nodded toward the screen where Nova was standing and said, “There, there. Now you get it too. We should enjoy every moment of this while he does all the work.”

  Jack silently agreed.

  [Fight]

A notification rang in Nova’s mind, and the invisible barrier caging him vanished the instant it did.

He looked ahead to where the warrior from Helinor, a bulky, bald man clad in hemp clothes, was strolling toward him and noticed something amiss.

‘Is he taking me lightly? Why hasn’t he drawn a weapon?’

His fingers twitching, Nova didn’t stand still. Instead, he calmly walked forward.

When they were only a dozen meters apart, the bulky man said hoarsely, “Draw your weapon now, or you won’t be able to later.”

“You should draw yours first before saying something like that. Or are you making fun of me?” Nova replied, unsure whether the man was serious, given the serious tone of his voice.

“I don’t know what grudge there is between you and my civilization, but I, Roaka, never make fun of another warrior who chooses to step into the arena.” The latter said solemnly as he raised his fist before him. “This is my weapon.”

‘Eh? He fights bare handed?’ Nova exclaimed inwardly, having never seen anyone else fight without weapons before. Outwardly, however, he mimicked Roaka’s actions and said, “What a coincidence. I also fight bare handed.”

Now it was Roaka’s turn to be shocked, but he quickly regained his composure and said, his tone now laced with excitement, “You do? Really?”

  “Mhm, mhm.” Nova nodded. “Really.”

“Hahaha!” Roaka threw his head back and laughed. His booming laughter echoed from the screen, reverberating throughout the stadium. “This must be fate that we’ve met here.”

‘Why does this guy take everything so seriously? Sigh, maybe I shouldn’t have lied.’ Nova thought, scratching his cheek in embarrassment.

Meanwhile, the Helinor warrior gradually regained his composure. “Since this is a fated encounter, I won’t kill you. Let’s give it our best and enjoy this fight.”

“Then I won’t kill you either,” Nova said with a smile, pointing a finger at Roaka and curling it, beckoning him forward.

Evidently, Roaka didn’t need the invitation. Before Nova’s words even finished echoing through the air, Roaka stomped his foot on the ground. In an instant, he closed the gap and swung his fist at him.

‘Pretty fast for his size,’ Nova thought, his eyes vividly tracking every movement. ‘But not fast enough.’

Having no intention of backing down in a contest of pure strength, Nova threw his punch, aiming to meet Roaka’s fist.

Seeing this, Roaka’s eyes shone. I’ve finally found a kindred spirit. Someone who shares my same—

  Bang!

Their fists collided, producing a loud bang, but an even louder shock surged through Roaka’s mind as his thoughts abruptly halted.

His fist, the weapon he had relied on his entire life, trembled uncontrollably with pain sharp enough to short circuit his thoughts.

  W-What?

Roaka, a warrior who had trained his whole life for battle, now stood frozen, staring dumbly at his own hand, unable to believe what he was feeling.

  ‘Not bad, not bad.’

Uncaring about Roaka’s state, Nova nodded to himself, unclenching and clenching his fist repeatedly with no hint of discomfort.

Forget discomfort, he hadn’t felt a thing from their earlier clash.

‘After enduring all that pain, I can finally see the results. And it’s really not bad.’ The more he thought about it, the wider his grin grew. ‘I’ll use more strength now.’

Lifting his head to meet Roaka’s gaze, he said in a commanding tone, “Continue.”

Then, without waiting for a reply, Nova swung his fist toward Roaka’s ribs.

Still reeling and lost in his own thoughts, Roaka couldn’t react in time and felt as if a mountain had slammed into him.

  CRACK!

The sound was so loud that it sent shivers down the spines of everyone in the spectator stands as Roaka was sent flying a hundred meters before crashing back to the ground.

For a long moment, the arena held its breath.

  ‘Did I kill him?’

Nova’s excitement over his newfound strength quickly faded as he somberly stared at Roaka, who lay motionless.

‘I can’t tell from here, but he’s definitely not moving. I need to get a closer look.’

Stepping forward, Nova quickly reached Roaka’s side and knelt to check his condition.

It only took a second for Nova to realize the full extent of Roaka’s injuries, and his eyes widened.

‘He’s still breathing, but… barely. Every bone in his chest is either broken or shattered. Luckily, I didn’t use any Force, and his body is slowly healing, otherwise, he’d already be dead.’

‘There’s also another thing that saved him and that is, his body has been trained. Without that, the damage would’ve been beyond repair.’

Nova straightened his back, a sigh of relief escaping his lips.

He had given Roaka his word that he wouldn’t kill him, and if he accidentally did, it would’ve left a sour taste in his mouth.

A whimper, no louder than a whisper, escaped Roaka’s lips, and it was then that a notification rang in Nova’s mind.

[Earth (Leader) has won against Helinor (Subordinate)]

‘He admitted defeat?’ Nova was taken aback. He hadn’t expected someone who carried himself like Roaka, a true warrior, to yield, and he had been ready to coax it out of him.

‘Pity he’s barely conscious. I would’ve liked to ask him why he did that.’

Still filled with curiosity, Nova’s figure slowly disappeared from the arena as another notification rang in his head.
