Chapter 289

Like clockwork, one day later the Gold coins were sent directly to Nova’s inventory, prompting him to stop his training and stand still as he stared at the impossibly large amount of coins he now possessed.

  [Gold: 1,000,004,093]

“If I could keep all of it, I’d be able to buy even better herbs to refine my body,” Nova said to himself as the thought of keeping everything for himself crossed his mind, only to be quickly pushed away.

“I can’t be too greedy. If I keep this, there’s no telling when the next time will be that I’ll be able to fight, as Erevan and Jack… no, even Slade would instantly start accepting fight prompts as soon as they pop up.”

He sighed and, albeit unwillingly, evenly split the coins into three shares. He kept one for himself before calling both Erevan and Jack to come pick up their portions.

Unsurprisingly, as soon as he called them, they showed up, grabbed their shares, and left just as quickly.

Nova shrugged at the sight and went back to training.

With no challenge being issued against Earth, time passed peacefully for everyone, including the people of Grenara, who had slowly accustomed themselves to living in another civilization’s town.

As for Khaian and Helinor, neither of the two made any move, which surprised Nova. He was sure that, by now, they wanted nothing more than to eat him alive, but he didn’t let that worry him.

Thus, a month flew by as he dedicated each and every day to increasing the levels of his spear skills.

And it was today that a notification he’d long awaited finally rang in his mind.

  [Skill Spear Thrust (34) (17,179,869,184,000/17,179,869,184,000) → Spear Thrust (35)]

  [Skill Spear Jab (34) (17,179,869,184,000/17,179,869,184,000) → Spear Thrust (35)]

[Skill Spear Overhead Strike (34) (17,179,869,184,000/17,179,869,184,000) → Spear Thrust (35)]

  [Skill Spear Lunge (34) (17,179,869,184,000/17,179,869,184,000) → Spear Thrust (35)]

  [Skill Spear Sweep (34) (17,179,869,184,000/17,179,869,184,000) → Spear Thrust (35)]

  [Comprehend Spear Force to continue]

[You have already comprehended Spear Force]

[Skill Way of the Spear (I) has been created]

‘Way of the spear? Now that I think about it, I haven’t asked the others anything about what comes after level 35, only that it requires learning Force to move forward.’ Nova calmed his breathing as he went through the notifications, which didn’t seem to stop.

[Title Spear Advanced → Spear Master]

He spoke thoughtfully, “I’m at the Spear Master stage now. Next should be Spear Lord, and after that, Spear King.”

Curious, he checked the Spear Master title.

  Title: Spear Master

(You are now a master of the spear, worthy of opening your own school and spreading your style and knowledge. Grants +5000% to all stats when wielding a spear.)

“Five thousand percent?!” Nova exclaimed, his hands almost letting go of Dreadscape as he felt the changes coursing through his body while holding the spear.

It took him a while to compose himself, but he couldn’t be blamed for that.

In the blink of an eye, he had become ten times stronger when holding a spear. What he hadn’t taken into account was the sheer amount of time and effort it took to bring all the skills related to a weapon to level 35 and, on top of that, learn Force.

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

If he had chosen to slay beasts and allocate all his Stat points, an increase in strength of ten times wouldn’t have sounded too out of proportion. Obviously, anyone who took that route would be prematurely cutting off their future with the portals, as entering one with only high base Stats would lead to certain death.

Taking several deep breaths, he managed to calm himself once again.

“How strong am I now? It’s been a while since I last checked while holding Dreadscape,” Nova murmured to himself as he immediately called up his status window.

“Stronger. A lot stronger.” He was so at a loss for words that he couldn’t help but repeat himself.

Then his gaze landed on the new skill, Way of the Spear, and he said, “I’m almost sure of it, but it’s best if I double check what I need to do to increase it.”

[Comprehend the second stage of Spear Force]

“It’s exactly as I thought.” Nova released a deep sigh. “It’s still far beyond me right now.”

After setting those worries aside, he calmly placed Dreadscape into his Inventory and crossed his arms as he fell into deep thought.

‘Since I’ve caught up with my spear skills, what’s next? Should I try to comprehend the second stage of Spear Force? Even with the insights of past Lords and Kings, it would still take me several years, maybe more, to reach it. No, as things stand right now, I won’t be able to achieve that at all before I leave this portal, and that would be too much time wasted.’

‘Then… the choices are between crafting, studying arrays, and tempering my body. There’s also the option of comprehending another Force. Judging by how much stronger I’ve become with only Spear Force, it makes me wonder how far I could go by learning multiple Forces.’

Minutes passed, and despite having many choices in front of him, he couldn’t decide what to focus on next. It was truly a case of ‘when everything is an option, nothing gets chosen’.

“I feel like I’m wasting too much time on this. I’d better pick something up, even if it’s not the best option.” Having made up his mind, he was about to choose at random when a system notification rang out in his head.

[The three-year auction house will open in 30 days]

[You can now head to the auction house and register anything you wish to sell]

‘An auction house in this place? Just how big will it be?’

Nova was already imagining the vastness of the auction house, filled to the brim with warriors from every civilization present in this Lesser Orange portal. Apart from that, the number of items listed would go far beyond anything he could even fathom, which also meant there would surely be items he desperately needed.

“It’s a pity, but there isn’t any more information on this. I guess I can only wait a month to see how it turns out.”

“I’ll temper my body once again while I think about what to do next.”

With no way to gain any further details on the event, he was about to buy a batch of herbs to temper his body when he suddenly stopped.

“Wait a minute.” His head turned toward the entrance as if he could see through the door. “There’s someone here who’s been enjoying himself and living comfortably for the past month without lifting a finger. It’s time for him to be useful.”

  /////

“It was the best choice I could’ve possibly made…”

A fair distance away, in his own apartment, Oreto, who was calmly sipping from a cup while sitting peacefully on a chair, said to himself, filled with contentment.

These past days have been as sweet as dreams to him.

But then he suddenly felt a cold shiver run down his spine, as if he were being stared at by an apex predator. Startled, he quickly stood up and turned his head left and right, but there was nothing there.

“Did I imagine it? Am I going insane?”
