Mr. G stood outside the ring. “This will be a standard match. Competitors will duel until their opponent concedes or suffers a significant injury. Competitors are also subject to disqualification if any part of their body exits the ring. All disqualifications are subject to the umpire's decision. No dirty fighting will be allowed. This is the first match between Prince Epios and the newcomer James Fos. Light Prince Epios has 21,753 wins to his name with 13,999 losses. Ready! Begin!”
He stood with his guard up across the ring, smiling. I felt his condescension and it made my skin crawl. I’ve seen enough video games and anime to know you never make the first attack. I don’t want to move around too much and waste my energy.
I ripped my shirt off to taunt him. “What’s wrong? You scared, rich boy?”
“Not in the slightest street trash.” He shredded his shirt and rushed at me. I immediately knew something was off because he was covering way too much ground, far too quickly. I was barely able to ready my guard before he was on me, showering me with blows. I protected my face, but each body blow hit like a rocket, as pain erupted across my body. My ribs and sides were badly bruised in seconds. I could barely think as the pain overwhelmed me. I…have…to…do something…before…they call…the…match...
“Where are your bold words now street trash! You are nothing! NOTHING!”
My mind sharpened as fear coursed through my veins. Think James! He’s taller, faster, has a longer reach, and is more experienced. What advantage do I have?! I glanced at his bicep as he blasted me in the side. But is he stronger? Let’s see if he can wrestle...
I lowered my hands to protect my body, and he swiftly readied a right hook to put me to sleep. I leaned back, barely avoiding a devastating blow as his fist grazed my nose. I reached out to grab him and my senses exploded from the pain in my ribs.

It was too much.
I was barely able to grab his shoulders. I tried to throw him down, but he kneed me in the gut. Black dots filled my vision, and my sight dimmed as the wind rushed out of my body. I stared in a daze as he cocked back his fist.
It’s over.
POW!
His fist devastated me, lifting me from my feet, into the sky, and out of the ring. My body thumped as it hit the ground, and I limply rolled to a stop. My mind faded…until he was suddenly in my face.
He straddled me and pummeled my head with blows. “Street trash! You foul rat fiend! You’re vile! VILE!”
I grew numb to the excruciating pain as I lost consciousness.
WHOOSH!
A piercing light entered my dim view, and its brilliant presence helped me cling to the edges of consciousness. I slowly turned my aching head and saw a blade of glistening diamonds outstretched, its point pressing against Epios’ chest, inches away from his heart. Its beauty and craftsmanship were unlike anything I had ever seen. The light that touched its surface was given life as it danced within the crystals, exiting with new direction, and a freshly colored glow. The lights comprised every color of the rainbow, as they danced and celebrated with unmatched elegance.
Milliard trembled with rage. “Epios, you have gone too far.”
Epios pressed the tip of the blade deeper into his flesh. “Well?! Do it then brother! I know you want to! You’ve always been jealous of me! You’ve always wanted everything I have! That’s why you stole the title of Archigos and you stole father away from me too!” He pressed further and further until blood spilled and the blade was perilously close to his heart. He pointed in Milliard’s face. “You put up your fa?ade, but I know who you truly are! You’re nothing but a selfish usurper who has come to take everything I have! You would love nothing more than to see me fall! You’re no better than this trash that I just disposed of!”
“Epios, that is more than enough! Your words do my reputation no harm. Your deeds only serve to embarrass yourself and sully our family name. Stop this right now. Leave the field and go to Mr. Writing’s office for discipline…”
“END IT! END IT NOW! I KNOW THAT’S WHAT YOU WANT! THAT’S THE ONLY THING YOU WANT!”
Milliard retracted his blade.
Epios slumped to the ground and wet the earth with tears and blood.
Milliard’s voice was filled with resounding disappointment. “You disgrace us all.”
