Following the Book of Legends, this glossary defines the fundamental forces shaping the world of Aria at the close of Volume I.
When the elemental spirits first descended, the world was filled with Mana—a mystical energy flowing through all creation. While most humans live without it, or possess only a faint spark for minor spells, the true balance of the world remains bound to the Spirits themselves.
-
The Descent: The spirits were bestowed by the divine to safeguard a physically fragile humanity.
-
The Severed Bond: Following Hadeon’s betrayal, the spirits withdrew, their trust in humankind shattered.
-
The Sustainer: Le’ Roche, the great spirit who once judged humanity unworthy, now sustains the continent out of love for the Arian bloodline.
The Arcanian are a rare lineage of humans capable of seeing, hearing, and communing with spirits.
-
The Pact: Through a sacred agreement, an Arcanian borrows a spirit’s power, manifesting as Arcana.
-
The Crest: Upon forming a pact, a unique elemental sigil appears on the back of the Arcanian’s hand.
-
The Bridge: Themis Valeheart stands as the prophesied heir of the Arian line, destined to mend the broken bond between spirit and mortal.
-
The Etherion: A forbidden device created by Hadeon to drain, store, and weaponize the essence of spirits.
-
The Sacred Stone: A relic forged by Le’ Roche to seal the Etherion’s corruption. Its shattering in Volume I released the shadows once more.
-
Hadeon: The first Arcanian to betray harmony, seeking dominion through the Etherion.
-
Shade: A Greater Spirit of darkness and endings; a quiet, patient influence that whispers rather than commands.
-
The Umbrafall: The total eclipse of the spirit, transforming mortals into iron-skinned Shadow Knights devoid of self.
-
The Requiem Knights: Not born monsters, but victims first—Arcanians and warriors enhanced, corrupted, and ultimately denied mercy by Shade’s design.

The Mechanics of Power
-
The Gift of Mana: Mana flows through the world as the echo of the spirits’ descent.
-
The Great Sacrifice: Eight spirits gave their power to seal Hadeon and Shade within the Sacred Stone.
-
Slumber and Rebirth: When the Stone shattered, the spirits awakened—but only fragments of their power returned, allowing physical manifestation through animal forms.
When Arcana is suppressed, an Arcanian does not become powerless—but burdened.
-
Residual Will: The strain left behind when borrowed power is denied. It manifests as physical heaviness, exhaustion, fractured memory, and spiritual pain.
-
The True Core: While fragments allow spirits to manifest, Themis is the living anchor that permits their presence in the mortal world.
-
The Heir’s Blood: Bearing both human and spiritual lineage, he stands between realms.
-
The Moonlink: An invisible thread binding hearts, not elements—capable of borrowing power only when resonance remains unbroken.
These are the truths known at the close of Volume I.
By the end of Volume II, some of them will no longer be true.
