Chapter 5: The Brains.

Chris stepped out of the way. As Melissa and the others walked in, they looked around. It was a simple hallway, with square tile floors, and a beautiful green marbling. However, there was something ruining it, a big pool of water in a nearby corner.

  Chris rubbed his head.

“What the… It can’t be leaking from the AC, and I don’t carry b around that much water… uhh maybe I was sleepwalking, no when I came to answer the door it wasn’t here…...”

  Melissa tilted her head.

“Well maybe a creature I mean weird things have been happening all day.”

  Chris nodded.

  “Fair.”

Chris continues walking, looking around as he does.

They walked through the house passing the kitchen; the kitchen was rather messy yet organized at once.

Finally, they arrived in the living room, it had a big tea table in the middle, and a 75-inch tv hung on the wall, with a white dresser below it.

Many pictures of anime characters hung on the wall.

Devan sat on the left, Neveil on the right.

Chris opened up a compartment on the dresser and pulled two outfits out for him and Melissa both.

Chris threw it; Melissa caught it. As she slipped it on, the orange loses fitting silk shimmered, with a belt around her waist to close it, and the sleeves hung past her wrists.

Chris’s was blue, and instead of a one-piece had pants.

He and Melissa sat across from each other.

  Devan coughed.

  “Nerds...”

  Melissa rolls her eyes.

  “Whatever.”

  Chris laughs.

“Any who, I assume you guys are here because of the skeleton and the lizard?” Says Chris.

  Melissa nods.

  “Yes and no.”

  Chris tilts his head.

  “Explain.”

  Devan chimes in.

“These two when we were dealing with the damn skeleton, had some sort of awakening.”

Neveil taps his fingers on the table.

“Yeah, like a big hand, and Mel summoned lightning.”

  Chris strokes his chin.

“Well, I’m glad you’ve come to talk to the great master.”

  Melissa rolls her eyes.

“Stop acting like a God, I own your soul after all.”

  Chris ponders.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“Hmm sure you do bum, anyway, how did you feel during the fight.”

  Melissa smiles.

  “Exhilarated.”

  Chris strokes his chin.

  “Interesting description.”

  Chris ponders for a while.

“Well, it could be that feeling that triggers your powers.”

Chris pulls a deck of tarot cards.

“How about we do a reading, I'm sure our dear demon will be quite pleased.”

  Melissa smiles.

  “Sure.”

  Devan sighs.

“Second time hearing about this witchcraft bullshit, maybe I should’ve just stayed home with my wife.”

  Neveil nods.

“Yeah, count me out as well, I don’t like all the demon stuff.”

  Melissa rolls her eyes.

  Chris shuffles the deck.

“Today we will find out which card embodies you the best.”

Chris slices it into the 3’s.

  “Pick one.”

As he places it on the table.

From the reflection of Melissa’s monocle, the middle deck was first visible, however slightly fell and shifted to show the left.

Melissa pulls from the left deck and places it on the table.

  Chris and Melissa smile.

  “The magician.”

Chris rests his chin on his hands.

“Do you know what this means my dear poetess?”

  Melissa rolls her eyes.

“Don’t call me that it’s outdated, but regardless, it means manifestation, willpower, resourcefulness, someone who turns ideas into reality.”

Chris lifts his hands up and points it down at Melissa.

  “Correct.”

  Melissa ponders.

“So, my powers are turning ideas into reality?”

“Probably among the lines of inducing phenomenon.” Replies Chris.

“That does explain the lightning.” Says Neveil.

  Chris adjusts his position.

“It could also mean that the way we get powers is willpower, or both could be correct, either way what do you plan to do with this info?”

  Melissa grins.

“I hope to explore the world and write a book about it, to uhh inspire people I guess.”

  Chris nodded.

  “Go on.”

  Melissa continues.

“And I wanna bring all my friends with me.”

  Chris tilts his head.

  “Selfish?”

  Melissa sighs.

  “Ehh I don’t think so.”

  Chris shrugs.

  Melissa smiled.

“Ok well we have you, now let’s go get my fraudulent little sister”

  Devan sniffles.

“Stronger than you by the way.”

Melissa sighs in annoyance, adjusting her monocle.

“Yap yap yap, she’s 5’5 on a good day and tiny, I can easily take her.”

  Chris sighs.

“I’m not sure about that buddy.”

  Melissa looks at him.

“Aren’t you 27 bro? Go file for retirement.”

  Chris Giggles.

  Melissa stands.

“Anyway, I’m going to the bathroom.”

  As she walks away.

  Neveil breaks the ice.

“Hmm, well are we all ready for this? I mean…”

  Devan cracks his neck.

  “We’ll be fine.”

  Chris smiles.

“Like when the three of us lost Melissa in the woods and that wolf almost ate us.”

“Ate y'all I was gonna put hands on it.” Devan says.

“Devan bro your sorry.” Says Neveil.

“I’ll still beat you though.” Says, Devan.

  Neveil stands up.

  “On the real.”

  Devan stands.

  “On Chris life.”

  Chris yawns.

“Both of y’all frauds… according to Melissa...”

  Devan scoffs.

  “That’s what I thought.”

  Neveil smirks.

  “Yeah, lil Chris.”

  ***

Melissa sits on the toilet; it had been quite a walk.

“Long ass house I swear.” She mumbles.

A soft echo of water dropping can suddenly be heard; she looks over to the sink, but there was no water.

She looks up to see it coming from the ceiling, she rubs her eyes, and as they open once again slightly sore from the rubbing, it was no longer happening, there wasn’t even a stain where the water came from.

She blinks and just as she does, the lights flicker.

  “Wait, did they really flicker?”

Melissa finished up, washes her hands and leaves.

Devan, Chris and Neveil are all wrestling in the living room, Chris curled in a ball, as Devan has Neveil pinned to the ground, hitting him.

  Melissa walks in.

  “Uhh…”

  Devan gets up.

  “You ready?”

  Melissa nods.

  “Of course.”

  As she clutches her fist.

Everyone gets up and dusts off; Chris goes to the back room to get something and shortly follows them out the door.

Chris gets in his truck as the rest of them follow.

  “Alright next stop is Kimberly?”

  Melissa nods.

  “Yes.”
