Chapter 4: The Girl at the Guild (Revised)

Following the directions he had asked earlier, Kaito soon found himself standing in front of a large wooden building.

  Adventurer Guild – Losthill Branch

The moment he stepped inside, the lively noise of adventurers filled the hall. Warriors laughed over drinks, mages chatted near the quest board, and the scent of warm food lingered in the air.

Kaito approached the long wooden counter, feeling the eyes of seasoned adventurers briefly glance his way. Behind the counter stood a young woman with chestnut hair tied neatly behind her head. Her warm smile made the intimidating hall feel a little less overwhelming.

“Welcome to the Losthill Adventurer Guild,” she said politely. “How may I help you today?”

  Kaito straightened his posture.

“I’d like to register as an adventurer.”

“Of course,” she replied, reaching for a small stack of documents. “We always welcome new faces. My name is Allen, one of the receptionists here.”

“Kaito Ishikawa,” he answered. “Nice to meet you.”

Allen gave a friendly nod while sliding a form toward him.

“Please fill this out. Basic information only. Name, age, and any prior combat or survival experience.”

  Kaito hesitated slightly before writing.

“Does… camping count as survival experience?”

Allen blinked, then let out a soft laugh.

“Absolutely. You’d be surprised how many adventurers struggle with cooking or starting a fire.”

  “That’s reassuring.”

“Trust me,” she continued with a playful smile, “being able to cook edible food already puts you ahead of many F-Rank adventurers.”

Kaito chuckled quietly, the tension in his shoulders easing.

After finishing the form, he slid it back across the counter.

Allen reviewed it quickly and nodded in approval.

“Everything looks good. Registration fee is one silver coins.”

  Kaito handed over the coins.

Allen stamped the document and retrieved a small metal card from a drawer.

“Congratulations, Kaito. From today onward, you are officially an F-Rank Adventurer of the Losthill Guild.”

She placed the card into his hand with a proud smile.

“Beginner quests are on the board over there.”

At the counter, a receptionist greeted him and helped him register. Soon, Kaito pay the fee of register and held his new F-Rank adventurer card in his hand.

“Beginner quests are on the board over there,” she said kindly.

Kaito walked to the quest board and began reading.

  • Gather medicinal herbs

      ? Collect firewood

      ? Slime subjugation

Before he could reach for a quest sheet, he heard a nervous voice at the counter behind him.

“Excuse me… about the Fang Rabbit quest…”

  Kaito glanced back.

A girl with blue long hair stood at the counter, gripping her staff tightly.

  The receptionist smiled gently.

“That quest is more dangerous than herb gathering. Are you sure you want to take it?”

The girl nodded, determination replacing her nervousness.

“I registered a week ago, but herb gathering only pays a few copper coins… I need to earn enough to pay for the inn.”

“I understand,” the receptionist replied warmly. “If you can find a partner, the guild will approve the request.”

The girl bowed politely. “Thank you.”

She stepped away from the counter and noticed Kaito near the quest board. After a brief hesitation, she walked toward him.

  “Um… excuse me…”

  Kaito turned.

“Are you a beginner adventurer too?”

  “I just registered today.”

  Her face brightened with relief.

“My name is Serena Windell. I’m also F-Rank.”

  “I’m Kaito Ishikawa.”

She clasped her hands nervously before speaking again.

“Would you… like to form a party with me? I want to take the Fang Rabbit quest, but the guild recommends beginners work together.”

Kaito considered it for only a moment. After few second he replied :

“Sure. I was looking for a quest anyway.”

Serena suddenly grabbed both of his hands, her eyes shining brightly. She lowered her head and said quickly,

“Thank you for forming a party with me!”

Kaito blinked in surprise, cheeks turning slightly red.

  At least she’s cute…

He cleared his throat and smiled.

“Don’t worry. We’re both rookie adventurers.”

After registering their party and accepting the quest, they stepped outside the guild together.

  Serena adjusted her staff nervously.

“This will be my first combat quest…”

Kaito looked toward the road leading out of town.

  “My first too.”

Side by side, the two beginner adventurers began walking toward the forest to hunt their first Fang Rabbits.
