Conrad watched the final tremor leave the young man's body as the bck centipedes reassembled around their nest.
He nodded once.
"Yeah."
"I think their speed and physical combat capability are limited to people that are physically strong and capable but not against a trained Nen user."
Seeing the encounter unfold from a safe analytical distance eased something inside him.
"Uncertainty had always been the most dangerous factor, he always thought when taking action against the unknown."
Now that he had data that he could use and gathered from direct observations, his mind settled into calcution mode rather than specution.
The centipedes reacted quickly, and they defended in some sort of wild formation.
All of these are not something that would scare him away at all.
"Seeing these bugs in a combat is something that puts my mind at ease. ".
He then nodded and started jumping from branch to branch to find other nests and spend some time to decide on a final pn to take action.
In just ten minutes he found another nest.
A rger nest, to be more exact.
At least seven centipedes are present in this nest.
When he reached a thick tree overlooking the nest, he paused.
The eggs clustered at the center, almost a dozen visible.
The centipedes patrolled around the eggs.
"Collecting five or four eggs would be pretty easy for me," he thought, correcting internally that three were required to pass the exam in the first pce.
Anything extra was insurance.
Then his gaze locked onto the center of the nest.
"I know their capability; there is no reason to stop now."
With this thought, Conrad first closed his eyes for a moment, and his "En" activated this time with more intent and for a reason more than just sensing around.
He then looked at the egg nest and then nodded as he willed it.
"Blink."
One moment he was on the branch.
The next moment, he stood inside the nest.
The centipedes reacted too te and did not expect such a figure to appear in their nest.
Conrad moved like lightning; his hands scooped four eggs in a single motion.
"Blink."
He disappeared again.
Reappeared on a tree branch nearly twenty meters away.
The centipedes struck at empty air.
Conrad gnced at the eggs in his arms.
He did not linger.
"It would be idiotic to think that centipedes could not follow me to the top of the branches and on the trees."
"I am not scared of them, but I do not prefer close combat with these ugly bugs."
He kept on blinking until he made sure that the distance between himself and the centipedes was more than two to three hundred meters.
The centipedes began moving erratically now.
Their defensive pattern had been disrupted by something they could neither track nor anticipate.
Conrad watched from a distant branch.
"So, they are not going to follow me."
"They do not want to risk losing more eggs to other dangers that may live in the forest," he thought and then turned his attention to eggs.
Six in total.
"I thought I got four, but I got six."
"That is a nice surprise."
Conrad smiled.
In less than three seconds, he had completed the primary objective.
His aura, however, thinned slightly around his body.
The half-defense dey during each teleportation had stacked momentarily, leaving his ten weaker during rapid use.
He felt the strain.
"If I spam this recklessly," he thought, "I'll leave myself exposed."
He slowed his breathing and stabilized his aura output.
Conrad shifted position again, moving deeper into the forest canopy to increase distance further.
Three hundred meters now.
Four hundred.
He finally stopped atop a massive tree with thick branches that allowed stable footing.
He set the eggs down carefully beside him.
Now came the true phase of the exam.
He leaned back slightly against the trunk.
"This exam is not about centipedes."
"It's about people."
"Other than Hisoka, there is nobody capable enough to take these eggs from me."
"Considering he is in the north, as long as I stay hidden, I should be safe."
Others like him would complete the task quickly and disappear.
Conrad exhaled slowly.
"He picked up three eggs and wrapped them securely within cloth from his pack, cushioning them against impact."
"If someone managed to steal from him"
"They would not know he carried extras."
Conrad opened his eyes again.
The bck centipedes were no longer his concern.
