We finished planning our expedition to the abandonded Power Plant by Rock Tunnel that evening. Jenny’s Mom offered to give us a ride on the water using Arms her Blastoise. Normally, I wouldn’t think a Blastoise could carry three adults, but Arms was bigger than the average Blastoise it seemed. “So, you said a legendary Pokémon lives there?” Jenny’s Mom asked as we were wrapping up. “Yeah, if we are careful, we should be able to catch a glimpse of the legendary Zapdos” I said giving her a nod. “Crazy that no one has noticed yet. Is it dangerous there?” Jenny’s Mom asked. “It can be dangerous, but if Bolts and Tremor help lead the way, we have nothing to fear” I said confidently. “Just in case, I recommend having at least 2 or 3 paralysis healing items with you just in case” I said as I put away my notes. “Are Spitz and Queeny going to be able to battle safely?” Jenny asked me. “My team will work to keep you safe so you can focus on making a new friend, and Tremor can absorb Electric attacks so no worries there” I said patting Jenny on the back.

  After saying our goodbyes, we all hopped aboard Tremor to head back to the lab so everyone could prepare for tomorrow. As we sailed down Route 1, I couldn’t help feeling excited at the prospect of finally getting to see more of my new home world. Being someone who wished they could be a Pokémon Trainer and a Pokémon Researcher growing up, and now getting to live it out was beyond my wildest dreams. As we pulled into Pallet Town, I tasted the salt on the sea breeze and could see the sun setting to the West. “Not a bad way to the end day ladies and gents” I said to my Pokémon as we came to the lab. While walking up the hill, Po and Rapunzel were talking about something and going back and forth. Inside the lab was Professor Oak, Gary, Daisy, and Ash all sitting by the computer putting in the newest measurements. I sent the Pokémon to the corral area while I headed inside with Cha perched on my head and Taco wrapped around my shoulders like a scarf. “That’s a very interesting new look Mr. Austin!” Daisy said with a grin. “You know me, anything for fashion darling!” I said striking a pose. Everyone started to laugh and Taco kept looking around the room trying to figure out what was so funny.

  I sat down and explained what had happened to the group, and watched as Professor Oak looked more and more distressed. “I need to call Dr. Fuji on Cinnabar Island right away” Professor Oak said still looking a little green. “Is Dr. Fuji the one who is studying Mew Gramps?” Gary asked watching his Grandfather type furiously. “Yes, and now I am worried about where that money he got for his research came from” Professor Oak said turning his head up towards the monitor. “Hello Samuel! Good Evening! Is everything okay? It’s unusual for you to call so late in the day” said Dr. Fuji on the screen. “He looks so much younger than he does in the games and the television show” I said quietly to Professor Oak. “Dr. Fuji, this is my new assistant Austin and he just got back from interviewing a Team Rocket Executive. I wanted to ask you some questions about your recent funding and if you know your current sponsor?” Professor Oak asked trying to sound friendly. “Huh? Oh, our new sponsor is the Gym Leader from Viridian City. His name is Giovanni, and he wanted us to research Mew and see if we can find any remains of Mew. He is also sponsoring Blaine’s research about brining back Fossils” Dr. Fuji said proudly. Professor Oak’s face puckered like he had just eaten a whole lemon. “Thank you for that information Dr. Fuji. Please make sure you take care of your self and don’t let your sponsor do anything that you find questionable” Professor Oak said with his voice trembling a little. “Sure thing Samuel! If anything comes up, you will be our first call!” Dr. Fuji said as he ended the call.

  Fuschia City, Safari Zone

  “So Mr. Giovanni, what do you think of my proposal?” said the Game Warden with an evil smile. “I think we can come to an agreement sir, but I think if you want Team Rocket’s “protection” you will need to offer a little more” Giovanni responded with a sneer. “What did you have in mind Mr. Giovanni?” the Game Warden asked looking a little more nervous now. “If any “problematic” Pokémon need to be removed from the Safari Zone you will call Team Rocket first. Also, our poaching operations will no longer be disturbed, but we will only hit zones that you clear first from now on” Giovanni said as he pet Persian. “Mr. Giovanni, I think we can make that work. We just need to make sure the volume isn’t too noticeable that the board starts looking into it” the Game Warden said wringing his hands together. “Yes, I think with a careful balancing act we can keep the league and your board out of this while Team Rocket grows stronger and you can continue operations” Giovanni said with a sneer. “To our new partnership then” the Game Warden said holding up a glass of wine. “Yes, to a fruitful endeavor” Giovanni said returning the gesture.

  Viridian City, Police Station

  “Mom, how did you know Bolts was the right Pokémon for you?” Jenny asked her Mom while they sat at their desks doing paperwork. “I met Bolts just North of here in Viridian Forest when he was a tiny Pikachu. Some kid had scared him up a tree, and Bolts was shocking any and all trainers who got too close to his tree. I was called in to remove him so people could pass safely, but when I got there I realized that he needed my help. I spent two days in front of his tree with Fire Fang making sure no one came close, and on the third day Bolts came down and sat with us. I told him that I needed to go home soon and asked if he wanted to come with us, and he nodded and took my hand. He’s been with me ever since. I think when you know, you’ll just know” Jenny’s Mom said finishing her story. “Spitz was assigned to me as a partner and I rescued Queeny from poachers after her parents were taken. I have never caught my own Pokémon before. Tomorrow will be exciting, but it makes me a little nervous honestly. What if I mess up?” Jenny asked looking concerned. “Honestly Jenny? You will mess up most likely, but everyone does when they do something the first time. You’ll have Austin and myself there to help you, and you’ll have Spitz and Queeny there to help you as well.

  The duo kept working on their paperwork until the clock struck 8. Jenny’s Mom stood up and stretched with a groan. “Time for the secret pickup! Wake up sleeping beauty and get him ready for transport” Jenny’s Mom said. “I’m on it!” said Jenny. “No screw ups this time! This man is getting back to headquarters before anyone knows we even have him” Jenny’s Mom said letting her Pokémon out to help her. Bolts and Arms held the door open as Spitz, Queeny, Fire Fang, Jenny, and Jenny’s Mom carried a fighting Proton out. They carried Proton over to the training fields behind the Pokémon Center where no one was around. In the sky, they could hear flapping sounds as multiple Fearow descended carrying a person sized cage. Behind them, landed a woman wearing SWAT gear and riding a Pidgeot. “Officer Jenny and Trainer Jenny, I am here to take the prisoner directly to headquarters where the Boss is waiting” the SWAT Jenny said giving a salute. “Don’t hesitate, and good luck!” Jenny’s Mom said in return. Proton was locked into his cage still gagged, and immediately up he went pulled by the four Fearow. “Let’s go StarShot!” SWAT Jenny called out jumping onto her Pidgeot. “One less thing to worry about tomorrow!” Jenny’s Mom said wrapping her arm around Jenny’s shoulder as they walked back into the station with their Pokémon.
