Ever since their arrival, the Cassius’ family had attracted peoples’ eyes. They were from the capital after all, so everyone had no choice but to render themselves captivated by the curiosity of the unknown, this town had yet to see a mirage of things.
This family was like no other this town had ever seen. They were well spoken, strong, and honest. As soon as they arrived, they started meddling in important matter. They took on some jobs that were kept till this day. They had started teaching at the city hall one year after they had arrived. Months later they were invited to the small council as advisors, and even though they didn’t have a formal seat, they definitely had a voice; their words were taken seriously and into considerations, they already had stronger presence than most in the council after only a month.
Of course, they couldn’t both attend the meetings once a month at the same time. One of them would stay with their children, which was not always an easy task to do, if anything it was harder. They would both represent each other when one couldn’t attend, people understood and respected that, and I was one of those people. Even though I was not part of the council, my father was, and as such I knew most of things that took place in their meetings, the trivial stuff, not the dangers though. I’m embarrassed to say so, but I hold them in an extremely high regard, especially since they had contributed to help lessen the town’s starvation problem, but mostly, because my heart yearns for more, beyond what my eyes can see. I can almost feel it.
I have no idea what to expect from Mrs. Lola’s other student, or whether we could even get along. I just wanted to follow directions from Mrs. Lola and be able to learn as much as I can from her. In other words, make her proud whilst learning something in the process. That would be enough, for now.
The next morning, I finished my daily morning chores and took off.
It was still quite early. I had to make some adjustments to my daily routines due to my newly appointed task of tutoring somebody she didn't even know. I sucked it up and began walking towards the stables while yawing every 10 seconds or so. In the end having to wake up 2 hours earlier than usual was taking a toll on me. Usually, I would wake up an hour before my father to get a hold of the day and be able to finish in time so she could study and go to class. Now however, the sun wasn’t even close to coming out when I started working.
When the sun was brightly shinning on top of the mountain and making its appearance on a new day, Kuvira caught a glimpse of its light right into her eyes, briefly blinding her. She reached out her hand as to prevent the light from harming her any further and then focused on the person where the light had set itself on, as if announcing her to Kuvira. Could it be fate?

Flor was wearing an oversized white shirt, and some ragged blue jeans, while holding what appeared to be some food for the horses. She had a small plant with small blue flowers tucked into her left ear, but her expression was grim and apathetic. It didn’t quite fit. And yet, Kuvira felt their meeting was important. A few seconds later, our gazes met, and she spoke:
“Your name is Kuvira, right? Paul told me there was a sturdy and brawny girl that lived around here, that she is easily recognizable by her strong demeanor and working hands.”
“Oh, yeah, that's me. I guess so” I replied, in an uncomfortable tone, I continued: “Mrs. Lola has asked me to tutor you for the time being in order to get you up to speed with the upcoming lessons 3 months from now.”
“Oh, I see… that woman sure is persistent. I thought I had mentioned to her I wasn’t interested in learning about the ‘unnoticed way of this world’” said Flor, exasperated.
Kuvira never thought she would hear something that had been trapped, inside her mind, in the back of it for so long, from someone else's mouth. She had pondered about the possibility of something greater, something bigger and exciting, laying underneath it all; hidden from the public, and even from the very strong. She did not know exactly what it was, but even so, she eagerly waited for it.
“What did she say exactly?” asked Kuvira, intrigued.
“She said something like, how it goes around and fills everything. The potential capacity of every individual to harness it, but how it goes unnoticed, even though it’s powerful enough to counter anything.” She continued “If such a thing really exists, then maybe that’s why it’s so beautifully concealed from human eyes.”
“I see,” replied Kuvira, somewhat discouraged her mentor hadn’t said this to her before.
“Well, I have a duty and a responsibility I’ve been given by my Mrs. Lola. She has asked me to fill in the gaps of her teaching, but rather I think she would fill the gaps I leave on mine.” Said Kuvira.
“So, I’m gonna do exactly that. I don’t know what it is you have in mind, that you want to do with your life or anything, but I have a world of things to discover, and I’m not about to sit still. I understand you might not want to engage in any type of setting that reminds you of your past, and I will respect that. But perhaps, this could help you keep your mind entertained and busy, maybe even enough to make your burden a bit lighter.” Said Kuvira matter of factly, but reaching out, nonetheless.
“…You sure are a vigorous girl, ain’t you?” said Flor, in response. “But…That woman has helped me out so much… maybe I’ll humor her for a bit.”
“Alright then,” said Kuvira, determined to do her job. “Nice to meet you by the way.”
“I wish I could say the same...girl.” said Flor, forgetting Kuvira's name.
“…” Kuvira looked at Flor in an almost too irritated way but began teaching her about the basic concepts of general biology.
