Chapter Three: The Black Hole Singularity

After saying goodbye to Syirius Ben, Little Starfish and Dimi led the four starry brothers toward Cygnus X-1. Dawnstar tumbled in a row of rolls, his curly hair spinning like a miniature black hole vortex. He shouted excitedly, “Oh! Oh! We’re going to see the black hole singularity! Nightstar, what are you dawdling for? Stop looking around and turn your shield into a loudspeaker to announce it to the other stars. They’ve probably never seen a black hole singularity before! Hahaha!”

Nightstar quickly retracted his shield, his pink fluffy belly pulsing as he glared at Dawnstar. “Third brother, stop shouting. My shield is for protecting Little Starfish and the starry brothers, not for your show-off. I’m not going to embarrass myself following you!”

Dawnstar felt wronged and howled, “Oh! Oh! Big brother, second brother! Listen to what Nightstar just said. I was just happily showing off a little for everyone’s sake!”

Heartstead Star shook his head. “Logically, there is still risk in going to see the black hole singularity. Even though Syirius Ben found a relatively ‘gentle’ black hole for Little Starfish, and Zephyr Cygnus is there to manage things, a black hole is still a black hole. We cannot be careless.”

Little Starfish and Dimi, walking at the front, exchanged a glance. Little Starfish turned to say, “Starry brothers, don’t worry. With Dimi here, even if we get pulled into a wormhole, Dimi can bring us back. Now Dimi will take us straight through. Are you ready, brothers?”

Starhaven snapped his fingers. “Come on, let’s face this new challenge. Third and fourth brothers, stop fooling around. When you see the black hole, you’ll probably cling to each other in fear!”

Dimi opened the arc-light gateway. Even before stepping through, everyone felt an oppressive weight that seemed to come from nowhere.

Dimi and Little Starfish jumped ahead, and the starry brothers quickly followed.

At first, everything before them seemed like darkness. Dimi quickly transformed into a glowing form, and only then did everyone realize that they had already arrived beside the black hole.

Starhaven’s body began to emit a faint light. His right eye’s purple pupil deepened, looking like a black hole itself, unfathomable, as if sensing and searching for the center of the black hole.

Heartstead Star put on his glasses. The moment they neared the black hole, the lenses turned like obsidian, reflecting everything around them and collecting and calculating all the information. He took out his pen, which seemed enchanted, flying toward the black hole. Dimi flashed past and caught it, returning it to Heartstead Star. This time, Heartstead Star didn’t speak a word.

Dawnstar stopped his mischief. His curly hair suddenly straightened and darkened, as if something were pulling it.

Nightstar had expanded his shield to an immense, unyielding size. His orange eyes glowed golden as he focused on the black hole. His pink body was no longer soft; it seemed armored, as if covered with a layer of solid protection.

Only Little Starfish and Dimi seemed relaxed, not nervous at all.

Dimi had transformed into a small black creature, its color unlike anything in this universe. Its eyes shifted constantly, pupils already fixed on the singularity of the black hole. A very long tail trailed behind, the tip glowing and sending out strange signals. It patrolled above the black hole at incredible speed, looking completely confident.

Little Starfish, meanwhile, looked around, searching for her Zephyr Cygnus.

In the distance, a dark figure appeared, it was Zephyr Cygnus! He wore a black coat and was extremely tall, clearly a bold and reliable brother.

As soon as Little Starfish saw Zephyr Cygnus, she leapt forward and hugged him, looking both a little aggrieved and full of affection.

Zephyr Cygnus looked at her and said in his hearty voice, “Ah! Little Demon is here! Are you bringing oleander popsicles this time, or planning to blow up my black hole? Hahaha! Your Silly Ben has already notified me several times, making me swear I can’t let you get into danger again, hahaha.”

Little Starfish held tightly onto Zephyr Cygnus’s waist, her cheeks red, but she said stubbornly, “There’s no danger! Dimi is here!”

Zephyr Cygnus winked at the four tense brothers and said, “Welcome to my black hole, brothers. Even though it’s mine, sometimes I can’t control it either, just like humans can’t control their tempers, hahaha!”

Starhaven, being the eldest, was the first to calm down. He plucked a series of crisp notes with his fingers, soothing the other brothers. Curiously, he asked Zephyr Cygnus, “It sounds like Little Starfish has been here before?”

Zephyr Cygnus laughed heartily and said, “Not only has she been here before, she almost got sucked into the black hole!”

Hearing this gossip, the brothers immediately forgot their fear and crowded around him.

Zephyr Cygnus held Little Starfish and said, “That little rascal, looking like a tiny demon, holding her little fork and peeking at the black hole, so curious and daring, insisting on seeing where the black hole sends things. In the end, she got pulled in herself. Dimi wasn’t there that time, but luckily Syirius Ben, Gáraphius, and I were all present. The three of us together managed to pull her out. She was so scared her little horns flattened, her fork fell to the ground, and then she hugged us crying her eyes out, even angrily shouting that she wanted to blow up my black hole! Hahaha.”

Little Starfish stomped her foot and shouted, “Ah, Zephyr Cygnus, stop saying that! It’s so embarrassing!”

Heartstead Star smiled warmly and said, “Logically, the speed at which a black hole pulls things in is extremely fast. Close to the singularity, everything distorts. That time Little Starfish really had ‘divine help’, that was you three brothers! And now she’s come again!”

Zephyr Cygnus said boldly, “This time is different. Dimi is here, and she has all of you brothers behind her. Even the black hole wouldn’t dare bully her!”

Starhaven’s expression grew calm and confident. As the eldest, he said to Zephyr Cygnus, “Since we came with her this time, we are fully responsible. There’s no way we’ll let her get into danger.”

Heartstead Star pulled Little Starfish close, hugging her tightly. “Don’t be afraid. No matter what happens, the brothers will fight to protect you!”

Dawnstar’s hair returned to its green curls. He puffed out his chest, his eyes bright like little suns, and said loudly, “I, Dawnstar, may be mischievous, but in times of danger, I’m the most protective of my family!”

Nightstar held his shield steadily and said, “Don’t be afraid. If there’s danger, Nightstar will be the first to face it!”

Zephyr Cygnus looked at the four brothers, his expression turning respectful. “I’ve already heard from Syirius Ben. Little Starfish really has four amazing starry brothers. Indeed, it’s true! Since you plan to see the black hole singularity, this black hole of mine is relatively gentle for now. Honestly, I don’t even know where the singularity is, but Dimi will surely guide you. I wish you luck, and I’ll be waiting outside for you!”

Zephyr Cygnus left following the black hole’s roar.

Dimi was already eager to enter. Using a slightly delayed slice of time, Dimi created a passage. Because time in this dimension twists, Dimi used four-dimensional time. As everyone entered the passage and approached the black hole, they could feel the immense power contained in the silence. Everything pulled into the black hole vanished in the same form, including time itself.

Inside, the black hole was unnaturally dark, a darkness so intense it hurt the eyes. It felt like a wind tunnel without light, a force making it impossible to float steadily. The brothers leaned on and supported one another. Little Starfish was safest next to Dimi. Without Dimi’s barrier, they might have been sucked into the black hole long ago.

Soon, Dimi found the point that seemed stationary because of its extreme speed.

The singularity’s center was eerily quiet. It seemed like nothingness, yet it held the condensation of all energy.

Heartstead Star held his glasses and spoke, “Logically, everything here can no longer be calculated. This is the endpoint of mathematics, yet matter still exists, so physics persists. If we observe carefully, we might see bifurcation points created by physics circumventing the singularity. That would be a mysterious new dimension!”

His words impressed everyone, even Dimi. Dimi leaned close and looked at Heartstead Star with its big eyes. Heartstead Star exclaimed excitedly, “I received a message from Dimi! Dimi is praising me!”

Suddenly, Dimi became extremely excited. It transformed into a glowing mass, hovering in midair. Little Starfish and the brothers all stopped to wait.

Dimi seemed to be trying something, constantly shifting shape and adjusting the brightness of its light.

Soon, faint spinning lights appeared all around. Dimi and Little Starfish exchanged a glance. Little Starfish said, “Dimi wants to tell you that the black hole really does hide other dimensions. But these dimensions are hard to detect, they may be moving, embedded, folded, or interwoven. Just now, Dimi caught one dimension, but it isn’t fixed. It’s changing, and it seems other dimensions are hidden or mixed inside it. That means you can’t open it with a single key. Although Dimi can open nearly all dimensional doors, this one needs its rhythm and pattern of change to be found.”

Little Starfish added, “I believe Dimi will find it!”

Starhaven pondered for a moment and said, “It seems opening the door to this dimension will require all of us working together. I’m skilled in music, maybe I can find its rhythm.”

At that moment, Dimi seemed to notice something. It wove through the spinning light spots, growing smaller and smaller until it disappeared completely.

A few seconds later, Dimi leapt out excitedly, transforming into something transparent like a lens, quivering in front of Little Starfish.

Little Starfish’s eyes widened in surprise. She jumped up and shouted to the brothers, “Brothers! Dimi says it has spotted a Calabi-Yau here! Ah! Right! Hehe! I want to go in too and see how that thing is symmetrical! Maybe I can pull it out and play with it!” She gave a mischievous little demon grin, proud of herself as she looked at the brothers.

Starhaven blew a bright note of music and exclaimed, “Ah ha! I didn’t expect a Calabi-Yau to be hiding here! How fascinating!”

Heartstead Star said, “Logically, we are starlight. Photons can enter a Calabi-Yau.”

Dawnstar flipped excitedly in the air a few times and shouted, “Oh! Oh! We want to mess with it too, not just admire it! Nightstar, stop staring at your fingers and keep up!”

Nightstar said, “We don’t understand the Calabi-Yau. There are many strange mirrored spaces inside. What if we get lost? Even Dimi might not find us.”

Starhaven said, “Don’t underestimate our fourth brother, he may seem simple, but he’s often careful, always thinking about everyone’s safety. But Fourth Brother, you can turn your shield into a light ribbon and tie it to the brothers. With Little Starfish protected by Dimi, we won’t get lost at all. But we can transform into photons to enter, and Dimi can become infinitely small, how will Little Starfish get in?”

Little Starfish giggled and said, “Starhaven, you’re underestimating me too much!”

She began to glow, shift, spin, and twist, finally becoming transparent and intertwining with Dimi.

The brothers stared in amazement. Nightstar asked, “What is that? Little Starfish? Has Dimi swallowed her?”

Dawnstar poked Nightstar and said, “Idiot! Dimi is inside Little Starfish! She’s transformed into a little Klein bottle!”
