Milly looks around the safe room for clues to find out what she will face. The only thing of note, the doorway, is obscured by an opaque gray veil. Not finding any information, She takes a deep breath, squares her shoulders and marches into the unknown.
The gloom of the predominant gray overcast sky flashes red and bright orange streaks. She finds herself on the edge of a forest fire. The air is thick with choking ash, cinders, and smoke. Heat tightens her exposed skin as the fire wicks away the moisture from her body. Her eyes and sinuses dry, wet irritation becomes chunky dry blockage. She casts a rain storm above herself for relief and to give her time to assess her circumstance. The storm soaks the surrounding area. The rain water heating with steam as she catches her breath. The ground rumbles with the trampling of forest creatures fleeing the conflagration. The dark line of predator and prey united in fear of fiery death fast approaches her position. The red/orange of the forest follows close behind. Milly turns to flee in the same direction the animals are heading.

Running fast as she can, lungs and throat burning from the still dry air even as she pulls her small thunder storm with her. Milly continues to run, one mile, two miles. She then half runs/falls into a large rocky gully with a fast-moving river. As she falls into the creek, she gulps large mouthfuls of water, only to throw it up as soon as it hits her stomach. The action brings her to her senses. She stands, chest and shoulders heaving from the run. Milly looks to the south, the gully widens and flattens to a fast moving small river. The north shows the rising hills. The water flows rougher and faster, but best of all, she can see a large thunderstorm building. ‘I am a Storm Rider time to live up to the name.’ As she moves north along the rough terrain, the fast moving water reaching out to splash against her.
She hears the scream of animals dying in tremendous pain and the occasional cracking of whips. Intrigued by the sound of whips, she climbs the bank. Milly sees a few animals trapped against a small cliff face. A strange being of what looks like a living flame has cornered them. Two legs and two arms protrude from a single body without a head. Whips of flame extend from the end of the arms, as she watches a whip lashes out and catches a small fawn around the neck. The baby deer gives a terrified bleat as the flame burns through its neck. Milly, without thought, stands and cast her Lightning Bolt Spell. Sparks of fire and ash fly from the creature. The whip retracts from the fawn, both whips strike at her from the left and right. Milly increases the rain, a clap of thunder makes a bass boom shaking the clearing. The fire elemental vanishes in a puff of smoke and cinder. ‘I need better spells, and stop running like an idiot.’ she thinks.
Milly climbs the rocky face after the animals have run off. ‘No way I could do this before, Attunement is the best thing ever.’ She grins to herself. She reaches the top and looks along the fire’s edge she can see more of the fire elementals, cracking their whips and spreading the fire. ‘Crap, need stronger single target spells for this. I’ll be swarmed, too many to fight all at once. They are all level 12 or over. Girl, engage your brain. Free points, 16 into intelligence will get me to 200 and the bonus for spell damage and effects. Hmm come to think of it 16 into each stat will get me to 200 in all body and mind. The last 24 points into Intelligence. That should give me some new combat spells. Said and done.’ she thinks.
A few minutes later, adjusted to her new stats, Milly notices ripples in the large creek moving upstream. One of the ‘v’ shaped ripples paces her movement along the bank. ‘Water elementals, hope this won’t give me a fail but if they are not bothering me I am not gonna bother them.’ While watching the activity in the water, she does not notice the fire elementals behind her on the bank. The water elemental shoots an ice bolt past her head. Milly ducks and spins, pushing her storm over a pair of fire elementals, weakening them. Milly exerts her will into the spell, converting it to a hailstorm. Lightning strikes one, then the other fire creature. A double thunder clap kills them both. Milly loots both corpses, then continues on. ‘The colder storm worked okay need to make it even colder. Next fight do better.’
With a better idea of how to combat the fire elementals, she climbs the river bank, walking along the top, looking out for more foes. She finds scattered fire elementals, picking them off by ones and twos, her Rain Dance spell now incorporates ice and hail. Which helps slow and damage the fire elementals. ‘Still need a better damage spell.’ She thinks. The next fight finds stronger elementals. Milly feels a shift in her spirit, as a new status window opens.
Caps on this paragraph……Congratulations, your spell Rain Dance has undergone an evolution, and is now TEMPEST. You can influence the severity and temperatures of the storm. From freezing cold to blood warm. A light summer shower or a freezing ice storm, the choice is yours. New Spell learned Arctic Force Winds. This Spell targets one to five opponents with the chill of an arctic winter storm.
Milly grins and pumps her fist in victory. She casts her Tempest Spell, and marches off armed with her Arctic Force Winds, to find the fire elementals. Milly makes a wide sweep of the open dungeon spaces. She drops the last group of fire elementals, then works to put out the forest fire. After all of this, she heads north for the Boss fight.
Milly finds a large, smooth area of black, glassy rock. In the middle is the largest fire elemental she has seen yet. The thunder storm hovers over head. Milly sits down and lets her Tempest Spell die, watching the storm. ‘I need to meditate to rest and recover, once full health and mana. Then kill this guy and leave this awful place.’
Several minutes later. Milly jumps to her feet and marches up to the fire elemental boss and shouts. “Hey Sparky I got something for you.” Casting the coldest Tempest Spell she can over the boss and anchoring it to the creature. She then borrows the power of the thunderstorm, slamming Lightning Bolts, followed by Thunder Claps, Followed by Arctic Force Winds. The boss retaliates with a double strike of its fire whips. Milly dodges the first and gets hit with the second. She casts Arctic Force Winds again, this time her opponent falls and rolls. Milly renews her Tempest Spell, the Boss elemental freezes in place. The flames of its body stay oddly stationary. Milly cast Energize on her spear and leaps onto the frozen body of fire. Milly lands point first with her spear. The elemental shatters into large pieces of red and orange ice. Milly stops to look around. The odd ice is not melting or disappearing. With a shrug of her shoulders, she scoops all the ice up along with the loot from the boss' drop. She opens the small chest, pulling out an item that is too low level for her along with 100 gold. She turns to the exit and walks out of the dungeon, proud but exhausted from her experience.
