Episode 11 - THE COST OF REDEMPTION

  Episode 11

They weren’t here to watch a drama.

They were here to watch us break.

The chanting didn’t stop when the torches dimmed.

  “TRAITOR!”

  “MURDERER!”

  “ASSASSIN!”

The words struck harder than stones. I didn’t look at who shouted them. Looking would make them real.

A guard’s spear hit the floor.

  Once.

  Twice.

The sound cut through the noise like a blade.

  “Silence for the High Priest.”

The crowd resisted at first—anger doesn’t surrender easily. But authority is louder than rage. Slowly, the chaos thinned into murmurs.

I could feel everyone beside me.

Lapace stood rigid, chin slightly raised despite the insults thrown at his name.

Stark’s breathing was steady, almost bored.

Misaki trembled—but she didn’t step back.

Scarlett stared straight ahead, refusing to meet a single accusing eye.

  Luna didn’t move at all.

  That scared me the most.

  The High Priest rose.

“This hall,” he said calmly, “will witness whether flame still lives in sinners.”

  Sinners.

  Not accused.

  Already judged.

He gazed at me “You claimed devotion could be elevated.”

  A pause.

“If this fails,” he continued softly, “Temple will handle the slavery ritual”

  The guards shifted behind us.

  “And yours with them.”

  My throat dried.

We have expected a bit support nothing we got, well results speak more than anything I guess.

  The priest lifted his hand.

  “Begin.”

  The torches flared brighter.

  The hall fell silent.

For the first time since we stepped onto the stage—

  no shouting.

  No chanting.

  Just breath.

This is the first time I’m acting on a stage.

My first time is super grand.

  Well—precisely—

It’s a super grand big hall with a lots crowd than the last time.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

  Drama begins.

BACKGROUND VOICE (A Moral Play Offered to God Kael

  PROLOGUE

  (Firelight breathes across the stage.

A single figure stands above the others.)

  KAEL (Draken) :

  I gave flame to humanity—

  not to crown kings,

  not to sharpen blades,

  but to see.

  (Quiet.)

  KAEL:

  Fire reveals.

  It does not flatter.

  KAEL:

Yet you learned to bend it.

  To warm yourselves

  while others froze.

  (A pause.)

  KAEL:

  You named comfort order.

  You named silence peace.

  (Murmurs ripple.)

  KAEL:

So I will not judge you as a crowd.

  KAEL:

  I will judge you

  one soul at a time.

  (He turns.)

  KAEL:

  Ladon.

  (A colder presence enters.)

  KAEL:

  Go.

  Call Everyman.

  ACT I – THE SUMMONS

  (Eliot enters. Relaxed. Almost cheerful.)

  ELIOT (William) :

  Another morning.

Another promise to fix things tomorrow.

[Smile. They like this part. They always do.]

  ELIOT:

  I have friends.

  I have love.

  I have strength.

  ELIOT:

  Surely that is enough.

  (A shadow lengthens.)

  LADON (Lapace) :

  Eliot.

  ELIOT:

  That voice sounds expensive.

  Am I in trouble?

  (A few laughs — nervous.)

  LADON:

  I am Death.

  (The laughter dies.)

  LADON:

  God Kael commands your reckoning.

  ELIOT:

  Reckoning?

  Today?

[Say it lighter. Like bargaining works on gods.]

  ELIOT:

  I have plans.

  LADON:

  So did the dead.

  (Sharp intake of breath.)

  ELIOT:

  Give me time.

  LADON:

  Time is the only thing

  you never owned.

  (Ladon steps aside.)

  LADON:

  Bring companions if you wish.

  LADON:

  But leave behind

  your gold,

  your titles,

  and your lies.

  (Ladon waits.)

  KAEL:

  See how quickly

  certainty dissolves.

  KAEL:

The fire has not touched him yet—

  only truth.

  ACT II – FRIENDSHIP

  (Misera enters quickly, almost eagerly.)

  ELIOT:

  Friend!

  Good.

  You came fast.

[Of course she did. She always does.]

  ELIOT:

  Walk with me.

  Stand for me.

Laugh with me while I explain this away.

  (Some uneasy laughter.)

  MISERA (Misaki) :

  I laughed with you.

  I drank with you.

  I stood beside you

  when it cost nothing.

  ELIOT:

  Then stand now.

  MISERA:

  Now?

  (She hesitates.)

  MISERA:

  Judgment is… heavy.

  ELIOT:

  So am I.

  (A few chuckles. Then silence.)

  MISERA:

  I will walk with you

  to the gate.

  MISERA:

  I will hold your hand

  until it burns.

  MISERA:

But I will not step into fire.

  [Don’t argue. Beg.]

  ELIOT:

  You don’t have to burn.

  Just stand.

  MISERA:

  That is burning.

  (She steps back.)

  KAEL:

  Friendship loves memory

  more than responsibility.

  KAEL:

  It stays

only while the flame is kind.

  ACT III – LOVE

  (Scarletta enters slowly, beautifully.)

  ELIOT:

  Love.

  Surely love saves everyone.

  (A soft murmur of agreement.)

  ELIOT:

  I gave you my nights.

  My future.

  My fear.

  SCARLETTA (Scarlett) :

  You gave me warmth.

  SCARLETTA:

  Not truth.

  (A ripple of tension.)

  ELIOT:

  Come with me.

  SCARLETTA:

I stayed while it was gentle.

  SCARLETTA:

I leave when it demands courage.

  (Gasps.)

  ELIOT:

  So love has limits?

  SCARLETTA:

  Love desires life.

  SCARLETTA:

  Judgment desires bones.

  (She turns away.)

[That one lands. Don’t rush. Let it hurt.]

  KAEL:

  Love that flees

  is not false—

  KAEL:

  It is simply honest

  about its price.

  ACT IV – WORLDLY POWER

  (Starken enters, confident, armored.)

  ELIOT:

  Strength!

  Stand with me.

  STARKEN (Stark) :

  I conquer.

  I protect.

  STARKEN:

  I end threats

  before they speak.

  (Some approving murmurs.)

  ELIOT:

  Then protect me.

  STARKEN:

  From enemies, yes.

  STARKEN:

  From judgment?

  (She laughs once.)

  STARKEN:

  No.

  STARKEN:

  When fire turns inward,

  my blade dulls.

  (She plants her weapon.)

  STARKEN:

  This battle is not mine.

  KAEL:

  Power kneels only

  to greater power.

  KAEL:

  And never

  to truth.

  ACT V – DESPAIR

  (Eliot stands alone.)

  ELIOT:

  So this is it.

  ELIOT:

  Surrounded in life.

  Abandoned in death.

[Don’t exaggerate. This is already enough.]

  ELIOT:

  I lived careful.

  ELIOT:

  I harmed no one.

  (A low murmur — disagreement.)

  KAEL:

  Silence

  is not innocence.

  KAEL:

  It is simply

  violence delayed.

  ACT VI – GOOD DEEDS

  (Lumina enters. She looks weak.)

  ELIOT:

  You are small.

  LUMINA (Luna) :

  You made me so.

  (The crowd goes silent.)

  LUMINA:

  You fed comfort.

  LUMINA:

  You starved me.

  ELIOT:

  Can you stand for me?

  LUMINA:

I can barely stand for myself.

  [Here it is. Kneel.]

  ELIOT:

  Then teach me.

  (He kneels.)

  ELIOT:

  I will strengthen you.

  LUMINA:

  Then I will never leave.

  (She grows brighter.)

  KAEL:

  Good Deeds do not abandon.

  KAEL:

  They wait—

  until acknowledged.

  ACT VII – RECKONING

  (Ladon returns.)

  LADON:

  Are you ready now?

  ELIOT:

  Yes.

  ELIOT:

  Not because I am clean—

  but because I am honest.

  (Absolute silence.)

  LADON:

  Only Good Deeds may follow.

  (They walk forward.)

  EPILOGUE

  KAEL:

  Let those who hear

  remember.

  KAEL:

  Fire does not ask

  who you were—

  KAEL:

  Only

  who you chose to be

  when it mattered.

  (Delayed applause. Uneasy. Thoughtful.)

  (The curtain falls.)

The silence afterward was heavier than the noise before. It was totally different when compared to the start.

  The priest stood.

  “You have talent,” he said.

  “And conviction.”

He offered me a place among the dramatists.

The priest continued, “And one wish.”

  My answer was immediate.

I kneeled and replied the priest “Thanks my lord, I want them in my crew that's my only wish ”

Idk why I have to put up but for sure I can say that they will be punished if I didn't do anything.

I continued before he could reply “Without them, there is no drama my lord. They are a my pawns used to spread God kael name ”

Priest smirked “that's unfortunate my child, you have learnt to show respect but criminals can't be ”

I kneeled down and asked the priest “My lord give them one last chance They will atone

Through performance and spreading the name and will God Kael.”

He lifted me up and said “kid they are all not just criminals but worse than that”

He looked them and continued “I'm in a very tough situation, in my power I can recommend to atone their sins by your way to the court ”

He turned away and continued “let's meet in court”

Like I guessed everyone is for results and he was a bit kind even though our freedom it's in the hands of the court.

Scarlett hugged me with tears and said “you don't have to stand with us, we are mere criminals. ”

Ladon stopped forward and said “This system is so shit, why do you even care a shit heads like us. At end we will be killed or sold”

Misaki smiled and said “you're so brave and kind William ” and she went forward.

Well I never thought Misaki was more brave than me.

Well I replied everyone “we have pact friends, we will be together until the pact is completed ”

  Pause

I said “WE WILL TRAVEL TOGETHER ”

I have seen everyone except Luna. She's just behind and said nothing. I really thought she would say something.

Well how selfish I'm I have bragged to her in this and waiting for her to praise me.

While we are going outside, a small girl said to me with a smile “I will not make sin and not let others do it ”

While I was trying to reply to her, her father grabbed her hands and they went away.

I hope we will complete our pact.

  To be continued.
