I woke up in a start. I felt my cheek press against ice cold sidewalk. I saw flocks of people bustling from shop to shop in the crowded city centre. The noise caused sharp pain to my sensitive ears. The constant noise gave me a massive headache. As I was shaking on the ground, I began to howl in pain. For a moment the city came to a halt. Everyone stared at me, wondering what the hell I was doing. People immediately looked away after a few seconds of looking below my waist. Some of the ladies cheeks became red and many a lady gave me evil stares. After that most of the people marched away indignantly, ashamed of my lack of class.
I was perplexed. What had caused such a reaction? Was this some kind of feline racism? Then I realized that all the civilians had looked at the lower part of my body. I immediately looked down, I noticed that I wasn't wearing any clothes. Now wonder those women were blushing, at least i'm well hung.
Ha, that's hilarious, I got a super rare skill, not that it helps my situation in the slightest. I was starting to shiver and felt extremely cold. After a few minutes of this torture, I received a status update, from the system.
I sat there, wondering how the heck I was going to pay for better clothes, I came up with an idea. I saw a crowded shopping centre, where many shoppers frequented. After choosing the location with the highest concentration of AI shoppers.
To clarify, I was in a uncharted region of the map, where no other adventures have explored before. Earlier, the Duke Valcherion, left me in the city and told me to explore and train, only to return when I required basic necessities such as food and shelter.
Anyway, I found that the shoppers weren't interested in charity at all. All of them glanced away uncomfortably, too cheap to give away any money.
Finally after hours of waiting patiently, an old lady was kind enough to give me a few coppers to buy clothes.
I also received a new skill. I was ecstatic !
Perhaps the hours I had spent struggling had some benefits.
"Thank you madame, for your generosity and kindness."
Old Lady - "It was my pleasure young man, I wouldn't want your appearance to frighten more innocent civilians."
- "Next time I see you, I want you to be wearing clothing to cover up your underparts."
- "Here take this address."
" I accept"
I asked around for the nearest clothing store. Most NPC's simply looked away, as they could not tolerate my lack of clothing. After continuously asking and failing, I decided try something new.
Activate skill: Pathetic Begging.
I then asked once again. This time I found immediate success. The first person I asked, told me the directions to the nearest clothing store. After this success I received two updates.
"Sick!"
I then checked the next update.
"So you can gain stats by using your skills."
I was very interested with the prospect of grinding in Royal Road. It was unique, and definitely something I could abuse. Since I had to remain in the confines of the city and the area around it for the next 6 months, I would definitely need to skill grind. The stat bonuses could definitely be helpful.
I followed the map's directions and was directed to the clothing store. I entered the shop. I could see a beam in the shopkeepers eyes, followed by a sigh of dismay. I could tell that he was hoping for a wealthier customer. Obviously I could not blame him for his swift judgement as he was correct. I only had 3 coppers.
I asked him what the cheapest clothing I could purchase in the store. He stated that it would be the adventure set, This set came with clothing, provided and only 1 defence collectively. The bonus was that it could be worn by anybody. The set included a shirt, pant and amulet. The amulet provided 1 stamina.
The entire set was 7 copper, and one could not buy it individually. I was outraged as all the online forums stated that the adventure set cost a single copper. I realized that the merchant was abusing the populace due to the lack of competition, and thus was able to inflate the price, unbeknownst to the rest of the civilians. Unfortunately no one, would believe me if I told them they were being deceived. After all the Southern Nation of Bonta was isolated from the rest of the continents. According to the map it was a large island nation, located off the shore from the rest of the Continent.
Even though I couldn't afford the clothing I asked if I could try it on. He allowed me to proceed. After I had put on the clothes, I asked for a mirror, to see my appearance.
For the first time since logging in, I was able to see my real appearance. I looked like a young boy. I had silver white hair and red eyes. Although my upper body was that of a male (excluding my arms which were furry and resembled a wolf), My lower body, excluding a small area around my nether region was also fully wolf. All the fur was silver white, while my human skin was slightly pale, but was still quite normal humanlike colour.
After I had finished trying it on I returned the clothes. I could tell he was shocked. He had expected an instant sale.
Merchant - "May I ask why you are not interested in this set"
"Unfortunately I am not financially capable enough to purchase this fine clothing."
Merchant - "Then why did you try it on in the first place !"
One could tell that he was aggravated. His tone completely changed once he knew the sale was off.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
'Please kind sir, allow me to do you a favour instead."
Hopefully that will quell that douche bags anger.
Merchant - "So be it"
- "You have 1 day to kill 5 Blood Thirsty Boars
Okay better head out to kill the boars now. I headed to the plain. After some exploration I found a boar. I was trying to find a way to kill it, after all, I didn't have a weapon. Then I looked down at my paws and realized, that for a Howler like me, my body is my weapon.
I then decided to get some information on the boars. I yelled, "Examine"
"That bastard merchant !"
"No wonder it's a E level quest, these boars are 5 times my level.
I decided after much internal debate, that I needed clothing. Getting clothing would be too easy if I could simply buy them. After all I started playing this game for a challenge. I'm going to try and kill one.
I ran up to a boar who was all alone and jump kicked it. It immediately went flying into a nearby tree. It quickly recovered and looked unfazed by my full frontal assault.
It charged at me, it's husks pointed straight at my chest. It continued to advance until it was just meters in front of me. I had been waiting patiently until the right moment and then I moved. I rolled to the side, and then pivoted, facing directly towards the exposed side of the boar. I stabbed upward with my claw, gashing the boar. Blood began to flow from the boars body. It turned and tried to hit me again, but I was quicker. I planted my hairy foot on his face and stopped his charge. The boar was to weak to resist and fell over. I then continued to attack him varying from biting, clawing and kicking. Finally he died. I received several notifications.
I closed the notification tab and added all my stats to strength. I needed to be able to overwhelm, the boar faster next time. If i hadn't been lucky, I could have died from the second charge. I finally checked my last notification.
"Sweet a new skill."
I then proceeded to use my formula. I lured one boar away, then used my combo. First I would dodge, then use Claw Uppercut. Finally I would kick them over and attack them. While I hunted I ignored all notifications, until I had only a single boar left.
Finally I also received the skill that I had desired as soon as I realized my classes limitation.
After smiling contently for a while, I headed to my final boar. I tried using my regular tactic, but to no avail. When I sidestepped the boar it simply turned it's head quickly preventing me from attacking. I had to deal with the challenge of avoiding his fierce charge as well as it's spiral of tusks. After a few hours of constant battle, and trading blows, there was a strange lull. It was as though both parties knew that the next attack would be the final one. Both the boar and I charged fiercely towards each other. Tusk clashed against claw. I managed to push the boar back a little. When he charged towards me again, rolled under his legs and activated Claw Uppercut. The blow pierced right through his stomach, exiting through his back. I quickly withdrew my claw. After collecting my prize, the boars blood soaked head, I returned to the merchant.
The merchant looked surprised at my swift return. He had expected that I would fail. I was happy that I had proven him wrong.
I threw the 5 heads on the counter and looked expectantly.
The merchant reluctantly handed me the Adventure Set.
I hastily equipped my new clothing and headed to the old lady. I waited outside her house for quite a while. While I was waiting I noticed how lovely her house looked.
"She must be an aristocrat" I thought.
After a while, she came outside and greeted me. She said, congratulations, you have clothes. Here is your reward.
At the end of both quest I gained a total of 7 levels. I was now a level 8.
I returned to the Baron's Valcherion's mansion and after a delightful supper, I went to bed. That night I dreamed of the adventures that were yet to come.
"Yes"
