Since I found out I also had telekinesis, I unfortunately hadn't had the time to experiment with it, Alice is currently out with Brian and Liz, two of the older children who had spent some time under Mrs. Gray's care, both of them were adopted even before I was born but they still do babysitting jobs for Mrs. Gray and they also have a good relationship with all the other kids.
They're currently out distracting Alice as we get the house ready for her birthday. As nosey as Alice is, we have to do all of the preparations in the shortest amount of time possible, to not give her a chance of figuring out what's going on.
Currently me and some of the other kids are decorating the house, although my presence here as the youngest and as a four year old, is mostly symbolic, and the cleaning and decorating is mostly being done by the others, Mrs. Gray herself is in the kitchen along with Tomas, one of the first children to be in Mrs. Gray's care, he wasn't adopted by the time he was 18 but he had a knack for cooking apparently and wanted to become a professional chef, so Mrs. Gray sponsored him to attend a cooking school, he has since become a chef for one of those restaurants that has those tiny portions.
Tomas is currently helping Mrs. Gray bake a cake for Alice's birthday party. He helps out with the food for all the different events in the house, like Christmas, Halloween, the occasional birthday and so on.
Actually the number of children is too many to celebrate everyone's birthday, it's not about money as Mrs. Gray is loaded, no, she once said it's because it will wash away the novelty if it happens too many times, even if it's not our own party. Anyway, Mrs. Gray only celebrates the first and last birthday that someone spends in the house if possible, if not, we will just pick a day and celebrate their adoption.
Alice might be older than me but, I've actually been here for far longer than her. She was brought here, about eight months ago, apparently her home situation was so bad her parents are in prison because of it.
I still remember it like it was yesterday, actually scratch that, I remember it like it is happening right now, the day Alice came to our house, she was clutching Mrs. Gray's dress hiding behind her as she introduced her to us, I was being held by Liz, for some reason the older ones love holding me, though I have since made it a less frequent thing.
You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.
At the time I hadn't noticed it but now recalling that moment, I could vaguely see traces of bruises and cuts on her arms and collarbones. It took some time but when she opened up, she was a really spirited kid, liking to climb trees and play and find "scandals" all day long.

Finally, we were done, now all we had to do was, jump and say surprise when Alice came home.
I was fine but just as some of the other kids were getting impatient, we heard the sound of a car coming to a stop, just as they were coming up to the door, Alice suddenly stopped the other two. "Wait, " the soft voice of Liz followed "what is it Alice?" "Something is weird, the house is too quiet, do you think something's happened?"
Just as Liz with her inability to lie on the spot was about to give everything away, Mrs. Gray opened the door, everyone simultaneously shouting, ""HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!""
Alice, just looked what I assume a deer in the headlights would be like, stiff as a board, until Mrs. Gray kneeled Infront of her to get on her level and hugged her, again saying "happy birthday Alice, I know you don't have much good memories from your birthdays, but I hope you will overwrite them with good ones from now on."
And with that every one cheered and the party officially started. At first Alice seemed to be in auto pilot, not knowing what to do, what to say, or how to react, but by the time the cake was brought out she seemed to have calmed down and started enjoying the party as well.
For dinner we had steak something I, as Alice's roommate, had previously confirmed was one of Alice's favorite foods. Mrs. Gray has really outdone herself this time, but I also know the reason age went beyond what she would normally do for the kids birthdays, it's because this is the first time Alice is having a birthday party thrown for her.
Today the younger kids have special permission to stay up as late as they want, but for me, well even in my last life, I was never one for parties and would rather read a book in my room.
So that's what I did. I feigned sleepiness and went for my room, in the upper floor.
Once there, I decided to try my hand at telekinesis again, but my eyes were drawn to a white envelope on Alice's bed.
I know I shouldn't touch personal mail but it looks like it's glowing, and I'm not gonna open it so it should be fine.
With my curiosity unleashed and a sense of revenge for all of Alice's snooping around, I went towards the other bed.
The bed itself we illuminated by the full moon shining through the window, which in hindsight is probably why the envelope is glowing, or at least that's what I thought until I picked it up into the shade and saw, that it is still shining.
With some awe and now caution, I looked at the envelope, at it's center there was a red wax seal, with a heraldry that was divided into four different sections each with a different animal.
The heraldry itself was familiar but I couldn't quite put my finger on it, so I turned the envelope around, and my eyes widened at what I saw.
