Ch 86: Ancient Truths

With the city of Kialiakan still quiet in the early morning, Yorun awakens and he senses the leaders and diplomats that showed up for the Ratashatar all moving around the building and nearby areas be it with allies or other nations leaders and diplomats to establish more of a rapport. Yorun however focusses on Emperor Durinkal who remains nearby as well as the chosen who he saw yesterday also hovering in the sky above, he tries to identify who they are the chosen off from sensing alone.

"Heltior and I believe Kiltero are two of the chosens gods. The others though I don't know, they truly don't feel as familiar nor as powerful which is odd" Yorun thinks to himself

"Careful Yorun they are still gods even if they are lesser than ones such as I" Raeknar said telepathically to Yorun

"Lesser than you? What do you mean Raeknar?" Yorun asked confusedly

"There are many gods but amongst them all there are only a few of us who always were and always will be. We are gods of far more overreaching things, some of what we do even overlaps with what another does in some ways, however when we created the universe something else came to be as well. Gods, lesser gods, still powerful but far more specific in what they are the god of. For example Kiltero is the god of nature something far more all encompassing and as such like me, yet there is also the god of trees specifically, incredibly powerful in terms of that and yet below Kiltero. They do serve their own purposes however, while they are just as immortal as the eldest of us are. their chains are easier to please than ours when it comes to you mortals, they ask for less when you ask for things from them. They can do less than the god above them so it works out in everyone's favour" Raeknar said

"So some of those chosen up there are...?" Yorun said before his voice trailed off

"Chosen of some of the lesser gods, yes. Speak with them, find out who they serve for yourself" Raeknar said

"I do have a couple questions thought, if the universe were to... be destroyed entirely would those gods still... exist?" Yorun asked trying not to think of reality ending seriously

"No, we confirmed it long ago. They are fundamentally connected by their chains to the universe itself and the god they are under, explaining to you is by no means simple, you mortals find it impossible to see the infinite nature of us gods but while not too similar think of it this way. Look at your undead they are connected to you and without you they return to being dead yet you are barely even conscious of their presence now and they can go about doing what they need to without any oversight" Raeknar said clear in their voice that it is a severely inaccurate but best description Yorun can get

"Okay... I'm going to not think about that 'we confirmed it' for my own sake but disregarding that, what about Gaeronak? War is pretty specific isn't it?" Yorun asked

"Indeed it is however therein comes a different part of the way we are, the eldest of us are far more all encompassing but also we are of what we are all the same. To put it simply, you mortals are not the only ones who can go to war" Raeknar said with a tone that suggested something long before this conversation

"...Right. I'll go speak with those chosen now" Yorun said then he felt Raeknars presence leave his mind

Yorun teleports back to where he and the others all spoke yesterday then flies up towards the other chosen, he looks at them closely just as they do the same to him, one of them is clearly Heltiors, they are one of the Quunastrae fire elementals and Yorun can sense the divine magic within them. Then there is the Lastrium Nature elemental clearly the chosen of Kiltero but then there is the ones Yorun is truly curious about, there is a djelir and dwarven pair before him.

"I know who two of you serve but you two I do not" Yorun said as he looked at them specifically

"Finally deigned to come speak with your fellow chosen hm? Done terrorizing that sad little emperor?" The Chosen of Heltior asked sarcastically

"To speak with some of you, I know who you serve and we are definitely not on good terms" Yorun said

"Fair enough, how's the arm?" The Chosen of Heltior asked with a snicker and Yorun just responds with an eye role

"Ignore him, he's just as 'pleasant' as the one he serves. Anyway you're curious about these two aren't you? I'll keep this idiot away for now" The chosen for Kiltero said

"Thanks?" Yorun said somewhat confused by the relaxed and friendly stance of Kiltero's chosen

"So you're curious on us hm?" The Dwarven Chosen asked

"Indeed, Raeknar only just informed me of the whole 'lesser gods' thing and still wrapping my head around that. At least as much as I can, pretty sure it'd send theological debates into a frenzy" Yorun said getting a laugh from the other two

"Probably, I'd love to watch those debates now that you say that" The Djelir chosen said

"Anyway, I'm Daerath the chosen for the god of trickery Rianshul otherwise known to you humans as Shialina, they're a lesser god under the god of chaos whom I believe you've encountered." Daerath said

"And I am Paomka, chosen for the god of blood Lakrial otherwise known to the humans as Krunamite, she's a lesser lesser god under the god of water" Paomka said

"I'll admit for the most part by now I've gotten used to just outright confrontational chosen and mostly acting how you'd expect them to under their certain god" Yorun said

"I've nothing I can do with blood right now and Daerath well he IS doing the trickery thing just not right here, some of the diplomats and leaders are speaking with illusions and they have no idea" Paomka said

"Don't spoil it, I was going to do something later" Daerath said with a jokingly annoyed tone

"Your gods are against Raeknar right?" Yorun asked

"Currently yes but we haven't been told to be actually against you plus even if we were we can't do anything here right now due to the Ratashatar" Paomka said

"Plus with them being 'lesser gods' they're liable to also go to your side if it is determined to be better. Raeknar apparently made a big splash at their last meeting while you lost an arm" Daerath said

"Great.... Feels so damn long ago now" Yorun said as he looked to the draconic forearm where his human one used to be

"I can imagine, being swept up in all this god business never mind the war you've started. Kinda warps your sense of time especially with the gods being such timeless beings able to do anything anywhere, thank the gods there's not a chosen for the god of time. Pretty sure that person would go insane within an hour" Paomka said

"Hour for us maybe but a lifetime for them" Daerath said

  "Fair point" Paomka said

"Anyway, you found out who we serve, it's likely best you touch bases with the others below. Hope we don't have to fight you chosen of Raeknar" Paomka said

"Indeed, good luck with that Emperor" Daerath said

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Yorun nodded at them and waved as he flew back down into the colosseum, as he lands he sees Isaile standing nearby and walks over to them.

  "Hello Isaile" Yorun said

"Would you be so kind as to walk with me Raeknar?" Isaile asked

"Of course" Yorun said as he started to walk the halls with Isaile

"The Ratashatar is off to an interesting beginning, your entrance yesterday was masterful and well timed. The tension was practically able to be cut with a knife, I've already had several conversations this morning surrounding your relationship with our empire, I swear the energy these people have for this" Isaile said with a bit of a chuckle

"I imagine what was sensed after the fact amped those conversations" Yorun said

"Indeed, some are worried you may be here to get more souls but I have assured them the best I can that you won't be, you'll follow the rules here. I do hope to see you scaring the life out of Durinkal again however, the bastard needs to know what it is to squirm" Isaile said

"Oh trust me, I will make sure of that. I can't kill him here so I will do everything I can to make sure he knows that the rules here are the only reason he lives" Yorun said

"I did hear that some of the more minor nations are banding together to put forth a request for information while here. It concerns you as it may be about when Ghairlakriar flew off with you" Isaile said also a bit curious on that times events

"I can guess why, they sensed something and it's about time the world receives that knowledge. It's something your archives do not have" Yorun said

"Truly? Very old information then" Isaile said now highly intrigued

As they walk out of the colosseum they see Ooratlen of the Chaos Shifters sculking around alongside Daerath though Yorun knows from his conversation moments prior that is not really Daerath, Ooratlen spots them and motions to Daerath to wait as they walk over and do a slight head bow to Isaile.

"Isaile, I hope you are well this morning especially with this one at your side" Ooratlen said politely though with a smirk, his gaze shows no malice to Yorun

"I am more than fine. How are you Ooratlen? I trust today is chaotic enough for you?" Isaile asked receiving a small laugh in return

"Indeed, the tensions and worries following yesterday's meeting has everyone in such a 'fun' mood. Perfect for me, now how does Raeknar here fare in this political world?" Ooratlen asked as their body shifted to a more demonic looking form

"Well enough to know I should be more respectful in my tone or at least to everyone except Durinkal" Yorun said

"Oh that much is beyond clear my friend, gods know I died laughing last night after sensing that confrontation and nevermind witnessing the first one" Ooratlen said

"Are there any matters you wish to discuss?" Yorun asked as he, Ooratlen and Isaile continue the walk

"You previously fought my peoples patron god, the god of chaos and killed their chosen. How do you think we feel about that?" Ooratlen asked

"Well if I were to assume, given how you've acted thus far, how the god of chaos acted and with your relaxed nature. I imagine you probably find it fun or funny and are not really concerned as you're beyond excited to see what your god will do next" Yorun said and both Isaile and Ooratlen laughed a little

"Seems he's got your people understood already Ooratlen" Isaile said

"It appears so. You are correct, we hold nothing against you, plus if our god could never lose well that hardly would be chaotic wouldn't it?" Ooratlen said

"Fair enough I suppose, do you know how the others are feeling when it comes to the Ratashatar and the war?" Yorun asked

"Currently they all are mainly here out of obligation and worry but otherwise aren't currently planning to go against you as far as they've told me anyway" Ooratlen said

"And let me guess it's up to me to tell whether or not that information is truly correct?" Yorun asked

"You really do have us figured out!" Ooratlen shouted before laughing and teleporting away

Yorun then hears a bell ring out from back at the colosseum as The Venerable Speakers face appears in the sky.

"If all leaders and delegates could make their way back to the colosseum to begin the second day of the meeting it would be appreciated" The Venerable Speaker said

"Time for you to reveal something then" Isaile said as the two of them teleported back and to their own pedestals

In but only a few minutes the colosseum pedestals and stands fill again with everyone who was there yesterday but everyone's eyes focus on Yorun and Durinkal glare at one another once more. The tension rises quickly but like a person emerging from the smoke of the tension, the Venerable Speaker flies down into the middle of the colosseum and looks around.

"Welcome back everyone, today we have a request from several of the smaller nations in attendance. Chosen of Raeknar, the request is directed at you. After Ghairlakriar flew off with you and your allies, another being was sensed by several nations high in the sky, this was an unfathomable level of magic according to them and we all wish to know who this was and if they are an ally of yours" The Venerable Speaker said

"I remember this, our nation was sent into a panic when we sensed it within the skies with Ghairlakriar" Fliae the Eternal Flame said

"I shall explain, similarly to how things were explained to me on that day" Yorun said before looking up to the sky

The Chosen in the sky look down at them intrigued as Yorun focusses on Daerath.

"Daerath, as chosen for your god of trickery, I invite you to make an illusion of the being I have within my mind. As realistic as you can" Yorun said

Daerath smirked and in a fluid motion their magic took form as the entire colosseum is engulfed in illusions, only one thing is made though the image of the skeletal Jinarl in front of his own corpse, the illusion is so potent from Daerath that they can all practically feel the magic presence of Jinarl in front of them yet even as an illusion the fight or flight response of most people in the colosseum kicks in for just a second.

"What is this...?" Yunatrae the Wolf Lord asked, able to smell the ancient dust from the illusion

"The being everyone sensed that day, the being known as Jinarl also known as my predecessor" Yorun said

"There is no way Raeknar the god of Death and Justice for the human race would choose this being as their chosen and we would certainly know of it!" Emperor Durinkal shouted before getting a stare down from Yorun

"You wish to proclaim to know more of Raeknar than I? To presume a gods intentions while they watch this very meeting?" Yorun asked making Durinkal stand straight

"I apologise, I merely spoke too passionately" Durinkal said clearly apologising to the god he knows is watching

"Anyway, Jinarl existed five hundred million years prior to our modern day, he was the chosen of all the gods of death and justice and his duty was to bring justice to the entire world. He is the reason Necromancy was created, he is the reason for countless years our world knew war and then far longer peace, the demons all exterminated and the gods pushed back allowing the peoples of this world to face true justice and with no tyrants left. He fielded an army of the undead so large and highly trained nothing stood in his way and once he set the scythe down allowing himself to be taken into the afterlife, the gods acted and with the peoples of our world as their weapons they struck at Jinarls people killing all of them within minutes" Yorun said sending shock across the colosseum stunning everyone into silence

"...His soul still... Exists?" Isaile asked intrigued and just as shocked about this information

"Indeed, he aids the function of the afterlife as an eternally loyal figure to the gods of death and justice whom he served in life especially as his people got to do so as well even if their souls are all long gone now their bodies or ones model after them continue to fly the skies of the afterlife immortalising them in a way no others will. Especially as we were all doomed to suffer for our ancestors mistakes. How does a collective of death itself punish mortals while messing with the other Gods for an act so heinous? So unjust?" Yorun asked getting murmurs from the crowd of representatives

"Y.... I can only think of one thing... shorten our lives" Wilaak of the Giants council said

"Correct. Our world had peace, tyrants toppled, the gods at bay and that was ripped away the moment this chosen, this Jinarl fell. So everyone across this world involved had their lives shortened and we live with those consequences" Yorun said

"By the gods..." The Venerable Speaker said before going just as silent as the rest of the world

"You asked if he was an ally, I so wish I could say that. He cannot leave the afterlife unless allowed too and he cannot just come to my aid so trust me you have little to fear on that end" Yorun said

"How long...? How long could we have lived? Would we have been like Ghairlakriar?" Zaiklien of the civilised dragons asked

"You dragons were actually unaffected, you did not turn on Jinarls people. Ghailakriars age came from not too long after, when she wreaked revenge for the Kai Tamar. But to give it perspective, the current lifecycle of the elves is what humans like myself would have had" Yorun said

As the realisation of their ancestors actions takes hold of everyone, they know not what to say or do now never mind the knowledge of a previous chosen and the lengths they successfully went to for their world, for their entire realm. There is a long silence for several minutes before Yorun sighs.

"I understand this revelation has shaken many of you but I was honest and I am glad to have my predecessor known and remembered even if by currently relatively few. Regardless though I believe you all should go rest for the day, while this one request may have initially seemed a small ask it has set the remaining day off course. If you disagree then say something" Yorun said

As a few minutes pass with not a word spoken Yorun nods.

"Tomorrow then" Yorun said before leaving

The other delegates and leaders leaving not long after words leaving even the chosen above in a bit of shock and awe yet even more so above them unseen are the gods some fuming that Jinarl could be known far and wide again after all the trouble he caused them so long ago...
