Chapter Fifty-Four: The Grand Library

"How much of our magic has this guy stolen?" Pire was heartbroken. "I'm going too!"

"You can't, it will attract the Corpse Eater," Robinson refused. "And that cunning Puppet Master may appear at any time, do you want me to be killed?"

"I should have killed him when I had the chance!" Pire regretted, "I don't even know if he's spread the news about the underground city?"

"Stop joking, he's just a small fry, I doubt he can even survive. Tony tossed the dagger in his hand, with a disdainful expression, "Don't worry, I guarantee he won't make it through today. You guys shouldn't slack off either, hurry up and take down the mage tower."

"Robinson is more anxious than you!" Pire knew that Tony had a private mind, no more than taking advantage of the time to leave to rest and avoid those dirty and tiring jobs.

"Alright, leave one of the assembly puppets in the alchemy workshop for me!" Tony looked at Robinson and coveted those iron things after seeing them through the small ventilation window.

After activating the puppet, it's the most obedient and practical bodyguard.

"No problem, you go and kill that person quickly, then lure some ghouls to the hotel, so even if he collects enough magic stones, he won't be able to get in and activate the teleportation gate!"

Robinson muttered to himself, who had the leisure to bother with a miscellaneous fish, he was concentrating on thinking of ways to break the magical lock on the iron door of the alchemy workshop.

Violent dismantling is not allowed, otherwise the alarm spell array above will be activated, and it cannot be lifted within a limited time, and the entire alchemy workshop will be destroyed by the magic mechanism.

As a law-based mage, this tower of the law master is the most beneficial to Robinson's advancement. The few sheepskin scrolls he found earlier, although they were just some casual notes and insights, had already benefited him greatly, so he couldn't wait to enter the upper bedroom and study, to get his hands on the tower master's magical notes.

"Alright, I'm off!" Tony went downstairs, he was trained in stealth and assassination, so he could approach his target without disturbing the undead creatures on the streets as much as possible.

Unaware that he was being targeted by an assassin, Downton regained some strength and left the partially destroyed block.

The nearby ghouls have been cleared out, so if someone comes, they'll notice the problem right away and can search for themselves without any danger, so Danton moves to the Eastern District, which he has never been to before.

Danton crouched low and moved cautiously along the rooftops, avoiding the ghouls that roamed the streets.

Seris, holding the Magic Book one step ahead, floated up from a courtyard sixty meters away, raised the Night Stone and drew two semicircles.

  Downton rushed over immediately.

"There are only two ghouls and the place is big enough. It seems that the owner of the courtyard is a small aristocrat." Holma cast Shadow Word, opening up the war space.

Four demonic servants passed through the bronze gate and appeared in the courtyard.

Two ghouls suddenly saw them and stared over, but because they were of the same kind, they did not attack and shifted their gaze.

Dundonian drew his man-eating demon army knife and jumped off the roof. By the time he landed, the demonic servants had already charged forward, their heavy infantry armor making them resemble war chariots as they overturned the enemy, pinning them to the ground.

Tang Dun raised his knife and dropped it, resulting in the loss of two miscellaneous fish's lives. He then walked towards the bedroom.

Serres has already inspected the residence, and Tanton doesn't bother wasting time, but is stopped by Horma.

"Go to the study, it's convenient for me to hide there." A directional arrow appeared on the magic book.

Pushing open the rotten wooden door, what comes into view is a tall bookshelf, on which are placed over a hundred books with cowhide covers.

Downton walked in, his footsteps creaking on the wooden floorboards.

The white oak desk was covered in dust, except for some yellowed parchment paper, a tea-colored coffee cup with a spoon inside, and a solidified lump.

"It's all works from three thousand years ago!" For Tang Don, who loved reading books, this bookshelf was very interesting. His fingers swept across the spines of the books, wiping away the dust and revealing the text.

He casually pulled out a copy of "Fogel's Poetry Selection", and Tang Dun leaned against the bookshelf, starting to flip through it.

"Hey, hey, no time to indulge in reading now, the guardian deity of the Grand Library is waiting for you to challenge it!" Holma blocked the Flame Script with her poetry selection.

"I'm already injured and my soul shield hasn't recovered yet. Going now isn't seeking death?" Tang Dun was puzzled.

The soul shield will repair itself after being blown up, but it takes at least three hours, let alone Tang Dun is not in the best state now.

"You won't die, the library is a place for learning, it's not a life-or-death arena, it won't take your life."

A beam of light shot out from the ancient book and unfolded, forming a Gothic-style gate filled with light.

"May I go in?" Seres' cheeks were full of pleading, her hands clasped together, pitifully looking at Holma, and after getting a positive response, she immediately cheered and rushed in.

Downton stepped in and found himself standing in a hall made entirely of Heavenly Starstones, which were even more expensive than gold of the same weight. The atmosphere was pure white and sacred.

"How do I get there?" Seres asked, bewildered, asking Mo Tian.

Row upon row of stone steps stretched out, and at their ends stood magnificent and grand library gates, too numerous to count!

These gates are carved with various reliefs, full of wisdom and a sacred atmosphere.

Dunton looked around and seemed to hear a faint sound of chanting.

"Don't look anymore, with your standards, this is probably the only one you can get in!" Holma floated up, "Hurry up, don't waste time!"

Seris didn't float, but stepped forward on the stairs. In a place like this, she felt too small and became reserved.

The staircase has two hundred and sixty-seven steps, and Tangton notices that each step is engraved with a famous quote.

  "How beautiful!"

Serena's exclamation in front of this gate of wisdom also interrupted Tong Dun's silent reading.

On the two thick and heavy stone pillars, eighty-eight meters long, are carved beautiful flower decorations, but the most eye-catching is a young man sitting on the grass, holding a large book, eagerly flipping through its pages.

Because on that book, there are twelve big characters full of truth!

"Books carry wisdom, and wisdom gives birth to civilization!"

Under the urging of Mo Dian, Tang Dun stepped through this gate of wisdom.

It was still a huge hall that seemed to have no boundaries, but this time there were some differences.

On the right side of a white mark, there is a district with wide desks and chairs. The sunlight pours in through the glass window, overflowing with warm air.

On the left is the borrowing area, with a thirty-meter-high bookshelf covering the entire library, all in brown, and filled with books.

"Wow, that's unbelievable! How many books would it take to fill all those shelves?" Serese exclaimed, looking over at the desk in front of the borrowing section, which had a sign on it that read "Librarian", but there was no one there.

  "12,630,000 copies!"

The magic book went digital and floated towards the borrowing platform.

"Even if you're an ancient elf with a long life, you can't finish reading so many books in one lifetime, right?" Seres followed after.

"Knowledge is infinite!" Holma rolled her eyes and flipped a white eye.

For tens of thousands of years across the entire Western Continent, there were no more than five borrowers who had qualified and read over two-thirds of the books here.

"How can I borrow books from here?" Tong Dun's eyes lit up, just like a traveler who had been starving for a hundred years in the desert and suddenly came across an oasis, eager to take it.

"By passing the assessment, you can get a borrowing certificate." Mo Tian looked at Serese, "You also need to apply for it, be prepared."

"Ah!" Serese was startled for a moment, but laughed the next second, "Great!"

"Don't be too happy, 'Introduction to Necromancy', '100 Variations and Derivations of Elemental Laws', 'Primary Application of Magic Energy' are all your next courses. After that, you still have to learn 'Three Major Magic Energy Laws', 'In-depth Study of Elemental Theory'. In short, from now on, you will have to bid farewell to words like 'play' and 'game' in your life."

The magic book only lists a little bit, if Serese wants to become a great magician known throughout the Western Continent, she will have to read an astronomical number of books.

Serena looked pitifully at Downton, hoping he would plead for her. The death nymph was only a fifteen-year-old girl, still in the carefree years, and hated studying the most.

"Homura, don't make Seres a bookworm, ease up on the homework!" Although he knew that the stronger Seres became, the more she could help him, Tadokoro didn't want her to lose her joy, filling her entire adolescence with books.

"Do you still have the leisure to care about others? To become a great pharmacist, your efforts must not be less than hers." The Magic Dictionary scolded, "If you're afraid, get out now and don't tarnish the Great Library. Those who can enter here are all people with devout hearts and ardent desire for knowledge."

"What I said was Cerise!" Downton didn't mind, reading was a pleasure for him, not an ordeal.

"You have no idea how lucky you are. If those mages knew about this place, they would cry and shout, willing to pay any price just to take a look. But they don't deserve it, not even the chance to take a glance. Why don't you cherish it?"

A good sword is not made by a single hammering.

Dangton humbly asked for guidance and quickly changed the subject, "Who collected these books?"

"You have no right to know." Horma refused to answer. "However, if you find books or knowledge that are not in the Great Library, you can get a rich reward!"

"What's that?" Tang Don didn't understand.

"You don't think you can just read all the books here, do you?" Holma teased. "You'll have to work hard to get borrowing privileges. With your level of ability, it's already a wonder if you can even get the lowest clearance."
