Chapter Twenty Antique Street
"Alright, got it."
"Don't worry, Grandpa, I'll be careful."
"Okay, say hello to grandma for me."
Hung up the phone and stuffed the mobile phone into the pocket of his pants.
About what happened at the construction site yesterday, Lin Xiao had basically put it behind his mind. Early this morning, he got up and prepared to go to the antique street in the city to dig for some treasures that contained aura.
Just called grandpa to report, told him that he won't be back home for lunch, Lin Xiao who is not good at lying, used the excuse of going out to play with classmates again.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Close the door and walk a few steps to the elevator and press the down button.
"First go have some breakfast, then go stroll around the antique street." Lin Xiao took out his phone to check the time, planning to first go have breakfast before attending to official business.
The elevator quickly arrived at the seventh floor from downstairs, and as soon as the door opened, Lin Xiao walked in.
Taking the elevator downstairs, Lin Xiao had reacted to the upper floor more than once for the seventh floor where he currently lives. After all, his grandparents are old and still live on the seventh floor, which is really inconvenient. Although there is an elevator, what if the elevator breaks down?
This is not Lin Xiao's worry, this elevator has broken down several times in the past two years, and each time it takes 2-3 days to repair. During those few days, his grandparents can only stay at home, and all the chores like grocery shopping are left to Lin Xiao.
Fengyuan Community is not far from Linhai University. Except for the first year when the school required her to live on campus, Lin Xiao chose to go back home after entering her sophomore year.
He is a bit of a loner, and while he can get along well with people who share similar interests, he may not say a word to those he doesn't know or get along with for half a day. Secondly, in order to take better care of his grandparents, he moved back home during his sophomore year.
After coming down from the building, Lin Xiao walked towards the outside, greeting some familiar people along the way. In fact, it was just a nod and a few words like "good morning", "you're up so early" or "going to buy breakfast?" - just some formulaic pleasantries. Everyone wasn't very close, they just lived in the same neighborhood or unit, and exchanging greetings when running into each other was already the limit of their interaction.
After leaving the neighborhood, Lin Xiao turned a corner and arrived at the breakfast shop. He found a seat, ordered a bowl of wontons and two fried dough sticks from the owner, and then sat down to wait.
The store was quite crowded early in the morning. After waiting for a while, Lin Xiao's ordered wontons and fried dough sticks were served.
Before, he would gobble down his breakfast quickly, like a starving ghost. His uncles and aunts who knew him often advised him to eat slower, but Lin Xiao understood that eating too fast was not good, yet in order to save time, he continued to do as he pleased.
But Lin Xiao didn't rush today, so he spent more than half an hour eating this bowl of wontons and two fried dough sticks. His familiar boss and landlady were also surprised, but after reacting, they knew that it was summer vacation now, and their faces suddenly became enlightened.
"Is this Old Lin's nephew? He looks quite handsome, really not bad!"
"That's for sure! You didn't see how proud Old Lin was when he mentioned his nephew. If I had such a great nephew, I'd be smiling even in my dreams!"
"Haha, Old Wang, don't be jealous, your granddaughter also got into Linhai University, it's us brothers who should be jealous!"
"Not bad, not bad. I've seen Old Wang's granddaughter before. She's really pretty and must have many young men chasing after her?"
"Hum! Those kids are not worthy of being with my granddaughter. My granddaughter should find someone like Old Lin's nephew, that would be a good match!"
"Hmph! Look at how smug you are."
The old men at the next table were laughing and chatting, occasionally mentioning Lin Xiao's name. Lin Xiao was also calm and polite, greeting the old men before settling the bill and leaving.
As for the granddaughter of the old man Wang they mentioned, Lin Xiao actually knew her too. The two had met before in the neighborhood, and later Lin Xiao saw her again at Lin Hai University. However, their relationship was only that of ordinary friends, and Lin Xiao also knew that the girl already had a boyfriend, although it seemed that her family didn't know yet.
He glanced at his watch and it was almost seven o'clock. Lin Xiao didn't take the bus, but instead strolled towards the antique street in the city.
"Xin'er once said that the older an item is, the more likely it is to contain spiritual energy. However, such items are definitely very expensive, which is quite troublesome." Lin Xiao wasn't broke, but his money was all of unknown origin. How could he possibly tell others that this money came from another world? Wouldn't they think he's crazy?
"Never mind, let's take a look first, maybe we'll come across something cheap." Lin Xiao shook his head, casting aside the worries in his mind, and quickened his pace.
……
More than half an hour later, Lin Xiao stood at the intersection of the only antique street in the city.
Between seven and eight o'clock, some large shops were not yet open, but street vendors had already set up their stalls, placing genuine and fake treasures on a piece of cloth, shouting loudly whenever someone passed by.
Lin Xiao was here for the first time, and he felt so curious about everything here. He looked around this side and that side, and in the eyes of those stall owners, he was a complete novice who didn't know anything.
Such customers are generally their favorites because they can sell some unsold items to such people.
"Little brother! Little brother!" An old man with a goatee beckoned to Lin Xiao from across the way, "Come over here and take a look, I've got plenty of treasures here!"
Lin Xiao was originally using his probing technique to probe the so-called treasures on another stall, only to find that none of them contained any aura of power. He was about to change stalls when he suddenly heard a voice behind him and walked over to that stall without thinking.
"Old man, what treasures do you have here?" Lin Xiao asked.
That old goat heard this and suddenly laughed so hard his eyes narrowed into a slit.
"Sure enough, it's a rookie, this time there's a profit to be made." He had noticed Lin Xiao early on, and with his experience of running a stall here for over a decade, he could tell at a glance that Lin Xiao was a complete antique rookie, and a wealthy one at that.
Why say so?
You can tell by looking at Lin Xiao's bulging single-shoulder bag.
In Old Man Yang's eyes, Lin Xiao was just a small fry who harbored cash and dreamed of getting rich overnight. If you can't cheat someone like him, then who can you cheat?
"Little brother, take a look at this jade Buddha. This is an authentic treasure passed down from the Tang Dynasty!" The old man carefully picked up a palm-sized jade Buddha from the stall and placed it in front of Lin Xiao, introducing him to its origins and value.
"Is it from the Tang Dynasty?" Lin Xiao was somewhat skeptical, but he still muttered a detection spell under his breath. Instantly, a yellow glow that only he could see entered the jade Buddha, and soon a faint white light appeared on its surface.
"There's no boundary." Lin Xiao shook his head in disappointment.
