Chapter 38: Humans

The swordsman monster looked exactly like the swordsman. The only thing missing was the protective clothes the invader version was wearing and the sword. However, these discrepancies were easily fixed, although the protective spells woven into the fabrics using qi as a base were unreplicable by The Core, so it settled for mana-based ones instead.

The end result was that the monster was indistinguishable from the Invader, at least to those who weren't sensitive to qi or mana. But considering that that wasn't something that The Core could fix, it deemed this a passable outcome.

Now the only thing in question was how to use these monsters. It hadn't thought about such things before, as it was only focused on making them work, but now it saw that all its floors were complete, and since adding humans wasn't necessary, it didn't know what to do with this one.

It quickly jumped to work by giving it the things his invader counterpart had, especially since the monster didn't possess any techniques, only human instincts, and it didn't have the sword skill the swordsman used, as he considered it so basic that it wasn't included in his post-mortem memories. The best it could do was implement the other sword techniques it had gathered.

So it did so, making the monster, who was curiously examining his sword, seemingly fascinated by the fact that both ends were sharp, flinch as foreign memories inserted themselves into his brain.

It didn't need to translate these memories into forms that the monster could understand, as the species it had collected them from was the same as this one.

The monster was weirdly happy about those memories, showing a wide smile and sending a continuous stream of happiness through the connection it had with The Core—a result of its coming from a social species, no doubt. The other monsters usually accepted whatever it gave them without specifically sending words of gratitude through the connection; instead, they used it for its intended purpose.

The Core was certain it would need more humans so that the connection between it and this one wouldn't strain from prolonged usage. Although the true reason was that it wanted to see if this time wasn't a fluke and it could actually make humans, it felt that it needed an excuse since it couldn't really use them properly.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

So it repeated the process with all of its blueprints. This meant that the 8th floor ended up housing 15 humans in total.

There were some minor differences between them, prevalent especially in The Only One's monster counterpart, but right now those weren't causing any problems, so The Core decided to ignore them.

None of the latter humans were given clothes, as The Core saw no need for that. It instead observed for a while as the monsters interacted with each other, further showing the social aspect of the species. When it gained more floors, it would make a village based on the settlement nearby.

It felt a tug from the Vampiric Squirrel located on the 5th floor, signifying that The Foliage Shaper had eaten all the plants just as new Invaders entered its dungeon.

With excitement, it quickly revitalized the plants of the 5th floor and refocused on its 1st floor. It realized that it had forgotten to repopulate the floor with monsters.

When the invaders came in for a diplomatic visit, they obviously got rid of the monster that inhabited this floor, as the attacks and constant harassment would make a peaceful negotiation difficult to accomplish, and The Core forgot about replenishing the numbers because of how focused it was on the 14th floor.

The end result was that the new invaders, 7 disciples who wore the exact same robes as the previous batch and similar swords, strolled through the first floor to the second. Of course, at first, they were cautious, expecting monsters that the previous batch likely told them about, but most relaxed when they saw that nothing was there, only tensing when they stepped onto the second floor.

The Core decided to be bitter and summon monsters on the 1st floor after all of them left, leaving them a nasty surprise when they would be tired and retreating. Not that it expected this whammy to kill any of them.

It resumed observing this group as they avoided the Kasaline Shrooms, except for one that stopped, brought out specialized equipment from its ring, dressed in it, and began collecting the shrooms while remaining unaffected by the spores. The other members of the group expertly dealt with the monsters.

Although there were significantly fewer of them than the previous party, they seemed much more experienced and skilled. The worms and beetles of the second floor didn't press them as much as the previous group. Even the last one, who was focused more on collecting resources, was able to expertly deal with a Digger worm using only throwing needles.

Weirdly enough, they didn't open the chests of the second floor, ignoring them, which made The Core wonder if they were delving for the much more valuable treasures deeper in the dungeon.

Regardless of that, they were making steady progress deeper into the dungeon.
