'i would caution the use of non-specific runes to define intent and to be associated with specific concepts. eg. setting that a circle with a square inside representing fire and then using that symbol as a stand-in for the concept of fire for creation of complex scripts. This practice while effective in the short term limits future growth as most find refining previously created runes very difficult. If you are set on this path remember to constantly meditate on each rune adding further insights into the rune to prevent stagnation-the most dangerous part of personal intent based-runes, while keeping your personal runic alphabet short enough that each rune gets focus.
Using a pre-created system of runes is slightly better as it is more easily discarded, but again do not try refining these external runes(eg norse rune alphabet) as it creates an unstable foundation and makes it more difficult to discard the rune, as well as to refine and go further with the independent concept itself.' - livebackwards
I am very torn here. For example, using 'a circle with a square inside' as fire for example. I do like the idea of using logographs like one would essentially find when writing Chinese.
The problem of intent and future growth I'm not too worried about. I am definitely capable of 'editing' my memories, so meditating on each rune won't be a problem.
The main problem I have with the rune systems in my mind is 'readability'. You know how you are reading these words without much intent? It is sort of automatic.
You have trained your brain to naturally read words whether you want it to or not.
The world has many different languages to draw inspiration from. But the main problem I face is the subconscious not automatically calculating the output for me.

When making the design make a base set of different parts that represent certain components of that element.
Make it so that the parts have a variation for each element and can be combined in any manner to create runes with different meanings.

Interesting idea to transform it into essentially a puzzle. I would take these stages as an example. When I look at the chaos factor for example. It takes quite a considerable amount of effort to convert it into understandable data.
With this 'runic system' I want to develop. I want it to be 'smooth'. I want it to be easy to read once you learn the hidden meanings of the text.
I'll likely need to spend a lot of time engraving the runes into my procedural memory. Just like how we did the same with the alphabet.
It should be fun designing the sounds and meanings. But that brings up a rather interesting point. You said to make runes for all elements and non elemental properties.
For example '木' means wood in Chinese.
We know what that is... but remember this is a 'hidden existence guidebook'.
The meanings and definitions of words we will be creating don't exist! I mean this quite literally. For example, we can define the source castle using runes.
To outsiders, this information would be nonsense even if they have the 'key' needed to decipher the words.
So we will essentially be creating our own language. That means sounds, sentence structuring, metaphors, potential for 'infinite' descriptions, object descriptions. Most importantly, it needs to be able to convey information to other hidden existences.
When I look in my mind to the 'future' to see what this 'language' looks like. I completely fail to convert it into reality. It is sort of like how one can easily visualize an apple. But drawing a realistic apple is a whole other thing.
Without having developed skills in the arts. It is hard to translate thoughts into concrete data.
If you guys have any ideas for the name of this 'language'. You can let me know. I will be working on it in the background. But this will likely require quite some time to develop.
I want 'infinite potential'.
With the English alphabet alone. You can convey essentially infinite stories and describe things that don't exist. I want to be capable of doing that with this runic system.
I suppose this will take a lot of practice. In the coming weeks, I might need to buy some supplies in reality. When learning English, I often as a child would write out pages upon pages of a single letter of the alphabet to get familiar with it.
Try to write with your non-dominant hand. You'll find it far harder to be precise.
There is a period with any language where things are unfamiliar.
I really just want to get this idea out into the world. But it looks like it will require a LOT of effort! But it should be fun... I'm not in any rush to develop this system.
