Why didn't Xiaobai think of this earlier? Because he had already forgotten it completely, and even if he tried to recall it intentionally, there was nothing to remember. Human memory is just that strange. A psychologist named Tae Mok-rin from the Mountain Devil Country once said: "In theory, a person can remember all their life experiences, including the face of the nurse they saw when they first opened their eyes in the hospital after birth, but most people cannot recall them under normal circumstances."
There are also mystic researchers abroad who believe that a person only has one chance to recall all the events of their life, which is before they die. At that moment, they will recall the scenes of this life at an incredible speed. This is inferred from the near-death experiences of some clinically rescued patients. As for this theory, a small group of self-proclaimed authorities on scientific spirit in Zhiguai country gave a scientific explanation without researching it - it's just an illusion caused by cerebral hypoxia.
But Bai Shaofeng didn't know these theories, and his brain wasn't hypoxic at the moment. The memories triggered were like a dream from long ago, and no matter how he thought about it, they weren't entirely clear. Fragmented scenes appeared one after another. How did he know the name of the medicine "Jin Pu Duan Xu Jiao"? ...Because old Chinese doctor Jin Grandfather had personally told him. ...How did Jin Grandfather tell him? Because when Jin Grandfather treated injuries, it was in the backyard of Xiao Bai's house, and Xiao Bai was standing next to Jin Grandfather at the time, helping to hand over things.
Huh? That's not right! How did Grandpa Jin end up at Xiao Bai's house to treat Jiang Min's injury? ... Memories just became complete here. Originally, Jiang Min was supposed to go to Shizhu Village, but Grandpa Jin said that the wound-healing paste wasn't a ready-made medicine and needed to be prepared on the spot, so it would be more convenient at the patient's home. How did they end up at Xiao Bai's house? — Because there was one herb that Grandpa Jin didn't have, which needed to be fetched from Xiao Bai Village, and Xiao Bai's house had this herb, so for convenience, they treated Jiang Min in Xiao Bai's backyard. What was the herb? Xiao Bai didn't know, but his grandparents did.
Grandfather Jin was treating the wound, and Xiao Bai stood beside him curiously asking this and that. White Hair in the donkey shed at the back of the yard kept panting heavily. Grandfather Jin had a very good temper, smiling and not showing any impatience, answering whatever questions were asked, even explaining the prescription and usage method and principle of the golden wound medicine. This was the most important content, but Xiao Bai's memory became blurry here, he couldn't remember what Grandfather Jin said, only remembering Grandfather Jin's silver hair as white as snow...
Xiaobai wanted Zhuangru to speak, but Zhuangru remained silent. Xiaobai thought hard but couldn't think of anything else. He didn't give up and comforted Zhuangru by saying: "In my hometown, there's a folk remedy called Jin Chuanduanxu Jiao that has an amazing effect on treating scars. Tomorrow I'll call my grandma, grandpa, and classmates in Wucheng to see if they can find it."
Zhuang Ru: "Don't try to comfort me on purpose, I won't cry anyway. Such a big hospital doesn't have a good solution, can folk remedies work? ... Don't worry, I've already figured it out." Zhuang Ru's emotions had gradually calmed down, her tears came and went quickly, but Xiao Bai sensed a deeper sorrow.
"This time you're probably wrong, that's not some folk remedy, it's an improved version of a prescription that's been passed down for thousands of years. I've seen an old Chinese doctor use it to treat scars, and a knife scar over three inches long disappeared completely in just ten days!"
Zhuang Ru's heart had another glimmer of hope, but more than that, she was curious: "Is it really like this? But the scars on my face are not just a simple scratch."
Xiaobai interrupted her: "It's just a few more wounds, what's the big deal? Take it slow and steady, one step at a time. A dead horse can still be used as a live horse doctor!"
Zhuang Ru: "Who's a dead horse? I'm a big living person! ... Xiao Bai, you've been standing on the ground for so long, hurry up and lie back in bed, don't make your wound split open, it's not fun!"
"You sleep, I sleep."
……
Zhuang Ru was really tired and soon fell asleep on the small bed, emitting even breathing sounds. However, Xiao Bai couldn't sleep, he didn't have a bit of drowsiness, with his head propped up against his arm, thinking - what did Grandpa Jin say back then, how did he remember these five words "Jin Chuang Duan Xu Jiao"?
The darkness was terrifyingly quiet, making every small sound loud and clear. The soft breathing of the person beside him sounded like it was right in his ear, and the footsteps of someone walking around upstairs were unmistakable. The more Bai Shaofeng tried to calm down and recall, the more he felt disturbed by his surroundings, and his mood became increasingly irritable for no reason. He temporarily gave up thinking and tried to calm himself down first, so he thought of the "Unity of Body and Spirit" meditation technique that he hadn't practiced in several days.
At midnight, Xiaobai practices the method of unifying body and spirit taught by Qingchen, which has become a habit for him. Not only can it give him stronger internal energy when practicing martial arts, but also make his body and mind enter a very pure state of quietness and tranquility during meditation. Xiaobai loves this feeling very much. These days, he hasn't practiced because his legs were injured and couldn't sit in the lotus position, but now that he wants to calm down, he thinks about trying it - as long as his mind is ready, does he really need to sit in the lotus position?
Lying in bed trying to cultivate his heart method, but couldn't get into the state for a long time. Xiaobai didn't know that he was still at the beginning of his cultivation and far from achieving "moving, standing, sitting, lying down, and returning to tranquility". Since lying down didn't work, Xiaobai simply sat up, with his left leg still coiled, and his injured right leg bent forward. In this special posture, he surprisingly entered a state of unity between body and spirit.
Qingchen's first step in teaching was to sit quietly and calm the mind, requiring a strange static state. Qingchen described this static state as: listening without sound, seeing without objects, touching without limbs, sitting forgetting form, returning with knowledge. When he truly felt the feeling that Qingchen described, he found that everything was actually the opposite of the usual inward collection of sensory information from the outside. However, after Little White sat quietly for a while today, his state underwent a subtle change.
After the integration of form and spirit, it is further integrated into tranquility. Almost all the foundational practices of various spiritual traditions are similar to this. One step further, there are countless paths available, such as cultivating the elixir field furnace tripod to refine essence and transform energy on the alchemical path, or calming the mind and following the breath on the Buddhist path of stillness and contemplation. Alternatively, one can retreat their spirit and invite external energies to possess them, becoming a shaman or sorcerer. Of course, each tradition has its unique foundational practices, with subtle differences in methods and intentions for deeper future cultivation.
Xiao Bai learned the simplest form of spiritual harmony, and when he broke through his own boundaries, there was no guidance from a superior or assistance from a mysterious school. Therefore, for him, everything is possible, with countless paths in front of him, and he can choose to walk into any one of them to continue his cultivation and improvement, but the outcome is unknown. For example, Qing Chen herself walked the path from martial arts to Taoism, but she didn't teach Xiao Bai because she couldn't imagine that Xiao Bai would break through the threshold without a master's guidance in such a short period - this was almost impossible, unless he had already cultivated for hundreds of years in his past life. In fact, most people can't even pass this threshold even if they learn the skills for their entire lives, but Xiao Bai succeeded!
The realm of "Xing Shen Xiang An Yi Ti" has different interpretations from various schools, which can be explained from complex angles such as "stillness", "steadiness", "cessation", and "forgetfulness". Xiao Bai's self-realization is very direct - with a pure heart-mind in stillness replacing the usual five senses, an abstract and independent spirit begins to manifest. He clearly transcends all disturbances, and the entire "person" also becomes a conceptual existence.
For how long this state lasted, Xiao Bai's body suddenly "returned" again. First, there was light in front of his eyes, and then he arrived at a scene as if through time and space, like an extremely clear and realistic daydream. The time was when he was five years old, the location was in the backyard of his home in Xiaobai Village, and the reappeared scene was Grandpa Jin treating his injury. At that moment when Xiao Bai broke through his boundary, his divine sense rotated on its own, unintentionally triggering a kind of spiritual technique. In fact, various Buddhist and Taoist schools, as well as Western sects, have similar techniques, with cleverly different names, but it is closest to the "Guān" method of Buddhism, although most cultivators use a Taoist term - Huihun Xiānmèng!
