Chapter Ten: The Golden Rooster Leads the Way

My ninth uncle saw how determined I was and smiled with satisfaction. He then taught me the basics of Taoist magic, including the fundamental techniques for drawing talismans.

In the natural world, there exist five types of energy: wood, fire, water, earth, and metal. All things are transformed from these five energies. The so-called Taoist techniques refer to the use of certain skills to borrow these "energies" from nature, allowing one to achieve what ordinary people cannot. In Taoist techniques, the most basic method for gathering energy is through the use of talismans. To borrow energy from nature, one must first learn to cultivate their own energy, just like a person's body is a container - an ordinary person's body is like a dead bottle that cannot hold energy, but a Taoist practitioner can empty the bottle and thereby borrow external energy to enhance their own spiritual practice.

After Ninth Uncle finished telling me these principles, he told me to remember them and practice well after returning. After all, this kind of spiritual cultivation is not a matter of one day or one night. Then Ninth Uncle taught me how to practice the method of drawing talismans. It turns out that generally, when learning Taoist practitioners draw talismans, they usually need to bathe and purify their bodies first, and then open an altar to worship gods. Next, there are many complex procedures, and finally, five incantations must be recited. They are: pen incantation, water incantation, inkstone incantation, ink incantation, and cinnabar incantation. After finishing drawing the talisman, with the pen tip pointing up and the pen head pointing down, use all one's energy to focus on the pen head, and use the pen head to strike the talisman paper three times. Then, use the Vajra sword finger to instruct the talisman, and when instructing, use force with your fingers to express a sense of majesty that divine power has been attached to the talisman. Finally, take the finished talisman paper and lift it up to circle around the furnace smoke three times. Only then is the talisman drawing ceremony considered complete.

My ninth uncle taught me the art of talisman, which is not so complicated. First, worship and offer sacrifices to Lingbao Tianzun in heaven, then start writing charms, water charms, ink charms, draw talismans, and finally worship and offer sacrifices to Lingbao Tianzun again.

But saying is easy, doing is even more difficult. With my current small stature, I am truly a ghostly figure.

Unconsciously, two more days passed, and I had remembered most of what I should have. So, I chatted with Ninth Uncle about his experiences in subduing demons, and then I told him what the outside world is like now. I told him that their rare telephones back then are now called mobile phones, which don't have cords. Ninth Uncle exclaimed, "Hand chicken?" I didn't quite catch what he was surprised about, so I told him again that young men and women nowadays love using computers to go online, chat, and play games. It's very convenient for communication. After listening, Ninth Uncle exclaimed again, "Calculating chicken? How can chickens now spin silk like spiders?" I couldn't help but feel amused in my heart, thinking that this old fellow was really something. But you can't blame him; after all, he had been dead for forty or fifty years already.

I suppressed a smile and said to him, "Master, you have to know that this is not the same as that chicken." Ninth Uncle still couldn't understand these high-tech things, and my ability to explain was limited, so I just smiled and glossed over it. Just then, a loud crowing sound rang out. In this quiet, deserted city, it was especially jarring. Ninth Uncle looked at me and said with a smile, "Let's go quickly, this is the yellow chicken coming to take you home."

I gazed at Ninth Uncle, never expecting this old man to be so humorous. Sure enough, a large yellow chicken came running from the north, visible from far away and getting bigger as it ran. I swore to heaven that I had never seen such a huge chicken before, it was almost as big as a horse.

As I watched the yellow chicken getting closer and closer to me, I turned my head to look at Ninth Uncle, and suddenly felt a little reluctant to part with him. It was he who had saved me, and in these ten days, had taught me many things. I didn't know what would happen to him after I left. So I asked him: "Master, after I leave, do you have any plans?"

My ninth uncle looked at the 'One Step Further' train station, smiled at me and said: "Now that my heart is at ease, I will naturally go to where I should be going."

The place that Ninth Uncle was referring to is actually a place that anyone with a bit of brains would understand. I asked him again, "Will I still see you again in the future?"

Ninth Uncle looked at the young apprentice in front of him, with whom he had only been acquainted for ten days. He took out a folded piece of paper from his clothes and handed it to me, saying: "This is my birth eight characters. When you return later, open it on the way. As long as your skills reach a certain level, every month on the 15th at midnight, use well water to wipe one side of the mirror, call my name, and you can see me through the mirror who is in the underworld."

At this time, the big yellow chicken had already run to my front, suddenly stopped, and then I heard my dad's voice in my heart, he was shouting my name.

At that time, Ninth Uncle said to me, "Hurry up and ride on, if you don't go after your family calls you nine times, you'll never be able to return." Just as I was feeling a sudden pang of sadness at parting, I immediately knelt down on the ground and kowtowed three times to Ninth Uncle before jumping onto the big yellow chicken. At that time, Ninth Uncle said to me: "On your way back, there will definitely be wandering spirits trying to pull you down, remember, no matter what happens, don't look back."

I sat on the yellow chicken, at this time my father had already shouted my name eight times, seeing that I was about to leave, I shouted tearfully towards Ninth Uncle: "Thank you! Master!! Thank you for saving my life!!" After finishing speaking, my father's ninth shout rang out, the yellow chicken seemed to be pulled by something and started running quickly back and forth. At this time, my emotions were mixed, but I didn't dare turn my head, only hearing Ninth Uncle's voice from behind: "Remember, don't look back! When you return, you must work hard to cultivate yourself, don't use talismans to cheat people out of their money!! Remember, be self-disciplined!!"

Ninth Uncle's voice still echoes in my ears, and his words were deeply engraved in my soul without me realizing it. I opened the paper to find only a few lines of writing: 'Wei Fengjiao, born on December 27th, year of Ren Chen, at the hour of Chou.' I thought to myself, no wonder this old man had me open the paper on the road, this feminine name really doesn't match his image. It turns out he was afraid of losing face. Haha.

I stuffed the paper into my pocket and then tightly hugged the big yellow chicken with both hands. You wouldn't believe how fast this chicken ran, it was so fast that I couldn't see anything around me, just like a special effect. I simply closed my eyes and only heard the sound of the wind whizzing by as things brushed past me.

"Xiao Fei, where are you going?" Suddenly my grandmother's voice came from behind me, and I felt a sudden jolt in my heart. Had I already arrived? No, the yellow chicken hadn't stopped yet, maybe this was one of Ninth Uncle's tricks to lure me into the water as a wandering soul. Can't turn back, can't stop. Turning back would be disastrous, so I pretended not to hear.

After a while, the voice disappeared, I opened my eyes and found that I was no longer in Yīn City. The big yellow chicken was still running, and the scene before me was somewhat similar to when we went out to sketch in the suburbs. All around was a green landscape, but there were no flowers, yet there was an inexplicable floral scent. This fragrance seemed to have some kind of magical power, making me want to jump off the yellow chicken to find its source. I hastily pulled my collar up to cover my nose. In my heart, I thought, damn it, why is the road home so treacherous?

With a burst of adrenaline, I was worried that something else would happen. Fortunately, the big yellow chicken ran as if it had been injected with chicken blood, still sprinting at an incredible speed. Suddenly, a person darted out from in front and I took a look - wasn't that Yang Xu? He waved his arms wildly and shouted at me: "Where have you gone? We're all waiting for you to drink!" After finishing speaking, he blocked the big yellow chicken's path, but it was as if the chicken hadn't seen anything in its way, continuing to run at 70 km/h. With a loud crash, it sent Yang Xu flying. The Yang Xu who had been flung onto the road behind me let out a miserable cry: "Cui Zuofei, save me quickly!"

I completely ignored him, hugging the big yellow chicken and laughing loudly: "Save your mom, Chicken Brother, it's really cool to crash!" I roughly understood that these wandering souls could enter my brain and use the illusions of my family and friends. But aren't these wandering souls too stupid? Don't they know what friends are for? Friends are for stepping on! Haha, besides, my understanding of Yang Xu is like a farmer's understanding of big feces. Does this yin-yang person have the courage to block cars?
