Chapter 97

  Veronique’s Room

Her new room was ready for her the very next day after breakfast.

Veronique shouldn’t be surprised, after all it was entirely possible they had the room arranged in advance regardless of the result.

Her room back in the East Wing was probably ready for her as well, even if it was entirely possible they put it all together in a day, after all the Aurelia were filthy rich.

The room was bigger then the one she had in the East wing and about the same size as the temporary one she shared with Rhea…only now it felt bigger because it was just her and her pups.

A quick way to describe it would be it was like her room in the East wing, but bigger and with more expensive furniture.

It was divided in sections, one for studying with a library full of books that would be useful for Veronique, including those she already had.

She was glad to see it because they still haven’t found a new librarian and the staff there was no doubt still cross with her.

There was her sleeping space which included two smaller beds for Mos and Bos, which were shaped like crescent moon and decorated with an elaborate wooden frame that took after the design of her own.

Honestly Veronique thought those beds to be unnecessary since her own was more then big enough, heck the whole room was big enough it seemed excessive even with all the furniture in.

Call her crazy but she would have preferred a smaller space.

However she wasn’t the only one with her own room.

Rhea had moved back in her old room, which was right behind hers.

Their rooms weren’t next to each other, but each could access the other from a simple door, which was by a curtain on Rhea’s end.

The door in question also had a dog door, it was big enough to accommodate for Mos and Bos future adult size, if Veronique could hazard a guess the rooms adjacent to Rhea were occupied so they added this door as a compromise.

Or they simply didn’t want Veronique on the same corridor.

Well if it was so then the joke is on them since she preferred the privacy and appreciated not having Alexander as a neighbor.

  Miss Hawkings’s Study

“Eh what is this?” Veronique had said as she was presented with an odd bracelet, it was made of a green light metal and composed by two main ring pieces.

The first was engraved with simple lines making up the border around the edge and putting more emphasis on the triangular shaped white stone in the middle.

The second had a series of small cubes going all around in three rows, upon closer inspection those could be slightly risen up which allowed for movement all around, each row having a different resistance to it.

“It’s an Artifact to help you manage your mana” Miss Hawkings had affirmed

“You mean that thing the Duke mentioned a long time ago” Veronique recalled that particular conversation “the one that should tell me how much mana I have left”

“Yes, the Duke had given me the task of commissioning it done” the woman confirmed it “go on try it on” Veronique clasped the item on her left wrist, immediately upon contact with her skin the stone went from white to golden orange

“Did the stone just change color?” she double checked just in case it was that color all along

“Yes, it’s how it tells you your mana level” Miss Hawkings started her explanation “if the color goes to all the way to bright red then your mana is full, if it’s white then you are out of mana” she paused “You should strive to keep the stone to a very light blue”

“So I just keep using Hover on something till it gets there?” Veronique could already picture herself making random pieces of furniture hover over the floor till the stone turned in the desired color

“You will cast Hover on the cubes” the woman was quick to break that daydream “the bracelet itself is unbreakable and made of materials highly conductive and affine to your type of mana, so you don’t have to worry about it breaking or getting on fire” she anticipated any issue before Veronique could pose them “but regardless be careful with it”

“I am going to assume this was worth a fortune” Veronique wasn’t confident she wouldn’t end up breaking it regardless and if she did then she couldn’t imagine the consequences.

Even if the Duke wouldn’t hold her accountable, who was to say Alexander wouldn’t once he got the reigns of the family

“It’s still nothing to the Aurelia’s coffers if that’s what you are worried about” Miss Hawkings brushed her worry off

‘That still doesn’t make me comfortable going around with something so expensive’ Veronique didn’t voice those thoughts ‘and it still feels as if I am looking at my future cause of financial ruin’

“Alright, make sure you get the hang of it with Mr Doppelganger before using it without supervision” Miss Hawkings had recommended her “he should be also teaching you how to use Hover without calling out the Skill”

“I can do that?” Veronique asked, not recalling if she had ever seen something of the sort

“Of course, it’s harder to do but it’s doable” the woman had said it as if it was a silly thing to ask “it would be quite unladylike to call out a Skill in the middle of a social event”

“But Prince Leonard used a Skill during the Banquette” Veronique recalled that particular event at which Miss Hawkings just raised her hand in dismissal

“He’s the Prince, he could go anywhere dressed like a common man and nobody could tell him a thing” she pointed out before adding sounding saddened “at the least not to his face”

“Is that something that happens often?” Veronique inquired

“Prince Leonard had always been considered too soft hearted by the nobility, but he’s quite popular with the common folk” Miss Hawkings explained and from their brief interaction Veronique could see why it was the case “Anyway are you feeling comfortable in your old room?”

  “My what?”
