Chapter 23: Battle on S.13th St.

Stu arrived at The Watering Hole, it was vacant. He went to the bar, kicking the door open he saw Miracle at the bar drinking. “It’s sanctioned; I can kill you now!”

She sat there with her back at the door. She said, “You did it again, record time! You beat me again! You always beat me, don’t you? Sorry, I had a few while I waited. I want to die with a buzz.”

  “Where are they?” He gred.

She pointed at the back of the bar. Stu started walking towards the door. Miracle put her hand on his chest as he went by her, “You definitely don’t want to go in there, I made a mess!” throwing her hand off of him he ran to the back.

There were no bodies, only red paste that’d long since dried and started fking off the walls of the room. He saw tattered bits of clothing and bone intermixed in the paste. He backed out, shutting the door. Walking out to the bar he took the bottle Miracle was drinking from and drained it. “How long ago did you kill them?”

  Miracle smiled and said. “Today!”

  Stu said, “When, really?”

Miracle frowned, “As soon as I got them back here. A couple of days ago, I don’t know exactly, alright? The smartass little boy said I feared you; he bragged that Mr. Monster was scared by him. The little brat had it coming, it was just a human after all..”

Flopping onto a bar stool, Stu asked, “How do I kill you for good?”

Miracle gave a half-assed chuckle asking, “Why? Feeling generous, and want to give me a quick death?”

He stared bnkly at the wall across from the bar. He shook his head, “I want to keep you forever and keep torturing you until the st star dies out. So, it’s difficult to kill you right? Good..” Stu began to ugh.

Miracle asked, “What the hell has gotten into you?”

He stood up. Walked toward her, she downed her shot. “I actually do want to keep you forever, so don’t disappoint me.”

She moved off the stool faster than lightning, Stu threw the empty whiskey bottle, hitting her in the back of the head. She stumbled and Stu was already on top of her, pulling her hair back he said, “One.” Driving the dagger through the bottom of her chin, she fell off the dagger Limp. Crouching over her, her eyes opened wide, and she gasped. Stu said, “Two” plunging the dagger into her heart. He grabbed her colr and dragged her to the door she gasped grabbing his hand.

Looking down he said, “Three.” Driving the knife through her heart again. Look at that, the same pce twice and still fatal.. What do you know? She gasped again coming back to life, and he threw her down saying, “Four!!” He jumped on her head until he heard the neck pop. She went limp, “Looky here were learning new shit!” looking around he saw a trash can and a hose.. Perfect! She gasped and he stabbed without looking. Going to get the trashcan he said “Five.” She gasped as he pushed her into the trashcan, and he didn’t kill her.

Stu said, “There’s worse things than being mortal you know. Like for instance if you couldn’t die, even if you did die. Say you were trapped under water drowning over and over again. How long until you got used to it, maybe a thousand years?”

  Miracle yelled, “Destroy my heart!”

Stu looked at her asking. “What are you talking about?”

She said, “To kill me for good, don’t lock me in a barrel drowning! For the sake of Chaos don’t do this!”

Stu asked, “Do you really want to live? Do you really want to not drown for eternity?”

  Miracle started crying, “Yes, please..”

Stu cheered up instantly saying, “Alright, that’s all you had to say.” He smiled at her. “Let me grab the key and we’ll get you out of there.” He walked over to a table.

Miracle asked, “Really? You won’t torture me?”

Stu smiled at her gently saying, “Really, don’t worry. Mr. Monster wouldn’t lie to you.” He came back over with the hose. Turning it on and filling up the trashcan. She screamed pounding on the sides. The water slowed down her movements, she couldn’t break it, not with Stu reinforcing it himself.

  She screamed, “You lied!”

He stared at her saying, “You lied when you sent Mr. Monster to those kids house and took them away. Now he’s come for you.” he finished filling up the trashcan. She convulsed nonstop inside the water tank he’d made. He sat there counting “Six, seven, Eight, nine…” Her drowning continued on for hours.

He felt like it’d been long enough. He emptied some of the water and Miracle came back to life shocked. She looked at Stu with true fear. He asked, “When did you kill them?”

She was shaking asking, “H-how many?”

Stu said, “Two hundred, then I took a shit, so I don’t know. When? Or do you want to go back?”

  She said, “Never!”

  Stu said, “Then when!”

She said, “Never! I never did anything! I was too scared!”

He grabbed the hose again, “Alright, you think I’m pying?”

She screamed saying, “No it wasn’t me! Judge!”

  Tom said, “Yes?”

Miracle begged, “Please, I can’t do any more. I kept my end. I went beyond. Please..”

Stu gred at Tom, “That was the truth.. What she said. What is this? Is she innocent?”

Tom nodded. Stu broke the lock, pulling her out. Then he looked at Tom, “I’m going to kill you.”

  Prosperity yelled “Stu! Wait!”

Stu looked up and the girls came running with the kids. He stood up rubbing his eyes, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Tom said, “I think it’s time that you and I talk about some things.”

Stu looked around saying, “Your damn straight we need to talk. What the fuck was this?”

The cat climbed higher to speak face to face. “This was a containment protocol. For you, you have been going off the deep end tely, we had a situation that we promised to take care of. You wouldn’t have let us do our job if you were allowed knowledge of the operation. Therefore, containment was selected.” Stu pulled back to punch the cat.

A tug on his shirt made him look down. The little boy was there saying, “Guess what? We fought monsters again! With these people, they saved us from the bad guys like you did. They said you were all friends..”

Stu said, “We are all friends, why?”

The boy curiously said, “It looks like you were going to hit the kitty.”

Stu shook his head saying, “Nope just petting him. Why don’t you go keep your sister safe? I need to talk to the kitty some more.” The boy smiled running back to his sister.

Stu softly asked, “Alright, what happened?”

Tom said, “We paid Miracle to lie, she kept you busy so we could save the kids.”

  Stu said, “Rule 3”

Tom said, “Don’t preach rules at me! I know them, do you? We didn’t break the rules of the tournament tonight. Although if this situation were to ever happen again I hope you learned to listen to me.”

  Stu asked, “why?”

Tom said, “You are the target they’re after, as for why? I don’t know yet, I’ve been trying to figure it out, but you have been a pain in the ass. Constantly slowing me down and bucking. Good thing we checked the DNA of the children before they went home. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have known they were a participants retive. That gave us all the reason to make sure they were moved out of danger.”

Stu asked, “Why tell me they died?”

Tom said, “Two parts, one is you had to be punished for rule viotions, the other part is if I tell you something will happen, then it will. If you’d have listened to me you wouldn’t have known anything, except right now you’d know they were safe. I didn’t do this; you created this when you refused to listen the first time I told you to stand down in the restaurant. You have repented for viotions of rules 2 and 6. From here you have a clean ste with the rules.”

Stu said, “I’d have killed everyone tonight if they’d have tried to stop me. I’ve lost control haven’t I?”

Tom nodded, “Yes you have, possibly.”

Stu looked at him, “Am I in control or not?”

Tom yelled, “Chaos!” she came over in a rush..

Chaos asked, “can I see him now?” she ran over jumping on Stu and hugging tightly.

Tom said, “Expin your power to Stu.”

She said, “I don’t remember what it is exactly.”

Tom said, “It’s pure unbridled chaos, like a supernova radiating outward randomly, the surrounding stars don’t know where its limits will be until it ends. Chaos is the star, and Stu is the supernova. Containing that kind of power without a pattern is difficult. That’s why they say it takes insanity to worship it. No offense Chaos.”

Softly she said, “Yeah I know..”

Stu looked at Chaos then to Tom asking, “So it’s her power making me feel insane? Not because of some other evil thing?”

Tom said, “Yes, that would be accurate. The power of Chaos is driving you insane, slowly but surely. The test tonight proved that, and the other night as well if we’re being honest.”

Stu asked, “What’s really happening here? Is this really about the tournament? How many different interactions have been paid for by you?”

Tom said, “Me? Zero. Offering you things doesn’t work. Other resources were provided for you. This tournament is what it’s about. I’m making it fair, and without equal representation on all sides this will not be fair. I want you to represent humanity in the finals. I’ve deemed it fair. So, we need you to get stronger. The finals will have a full dispy of power; you need to harness this insanity before then. If not, then the tournament will not be fair..”

“Are other districts doing the same thing?” Chaos asked softly.

Tom said, “Officially no, but this is for the big prize. Unofficially all of them are. There’s no such thing as fair in this world. Yet, someone sent a judge of fairness. I’m going to do my job, and no one is voting for humanity. The fair thing is that I do it, I’ve already talked to the others during your st battle, and this one. The question is, how bad do you want to have a say in the lives of humanity, they are all reted to you a little. Just like those kids, what do you say?”

Prosperity came over saying, “Chaos and I are both in; if it means we get to stay together and help you.”

Stu asked, “You can really help me control this?”

Tom said, “I can’t, But I know someone that can.”

Miracle came over with a towel over her shoulders still shaking. “I can help you..” She avoided eye contact with Stu.

Stu said, “I’m sorry about before, I really thought…”

Miracle said, “Yeah I know, that was my job, just give me some space.” She was still incredibly agitated.

Tom said, “No one ever broke Miracle before, that was impressive. Then you did it twice. We have a chance in the tournament now.” He looked thoroughly pleased. Then, looking at the still shivering and soaked god, he said, “Miracle, get your things together. You are going to stay at the house of Chaos.”

Shocked everyone except Tom, yelled, “What?” In unison.
