Wang Yayan couldn't help the apprehension situated in her heart as she glanced over the expedition party.
She was the only Golden Core Cultivator present and she knew no more would show up.
The feeling of resentment towards the Sect Leader surged at that thought, surely there must be a limit in how expendable a Peak Golden Core Cultivator was?
And if there wasn't then the title of the Regional Powerhouse must be valuable enough to send more than just her?
Sure there were disciples but the strongest were at most at the Peak of Qi Gathering and she didn't see any of the more promising ones.
This wasn't a true expedition but rather a threat assessment where no one returning wasn't out of the question.
Wang Yayan knew the Sect Leader, not in a personal way, the man wasn't naive enough to form bonds with others but enough to know that he wouldn't yield under an old monster.
Especially if it wasn't even confirmed.
She also knew that if her words turned out to be false then the revenge for making him lose face by being intimidated by somebody weaker than Nascent Soul would be painful.
Therefore there really wasn't a good outcome for her.
If there was a Nascent Soul then she wouldn't be killed by the Sect Leader but instead by them for daring to intrude in their territory or maybe even for breathing the same air.
Everyone knew that Nascent Souls were all lunatic, no one ascended to that level with their mind intact, it just wasn't possible.
But if there wasn't then upon her return she would be subjected to torture sessions she could only imagine because she was there for the last one.
Wang Yayan wishes that the Sect Leader would act in the sects best interest and didn't kill Golden Core Cultivators if one merely displeased him but expressing such concerns was what led to the last torture so she didn't dare.

She breathed out an inaudible sigh, she couldn't show any weakness in front of the disciples, she knew just how viscous some of them could be.
Zhao Mingwei would have called her unnecessarily paranoid if he was alive and here but he didn't know anything about poisons and arrays, it always made her wonder how he got so far.
With an emotion she didn't dare name, she took out her jian from her store ring.
It was on the larger side for one, so that she could ride it comfortably into the sky, and the design was simplistic.
Excessive decorations were good for showing off but were unnecessary and, done by an inexperienced craftsman, could even decrease the effectiveness of a weapon.
Not that many inexperienced craftsmen remained near sect grounds but back when she was buying a weapon she wasn't certain and preferred being on the safe side.
The only decorative aspect were the words carved into the side of the blade, Tiankuo, the name of the jian.
Zhao Mingwei suggested that name, back when their relationship was better, said that the jian would help her travel all through the vast sky.
With an effortless jump she landed on her weapon and levitated above the ground.
With a look at the sun she could tell that it was already noon, the agreed upon time of departure.
If some disciples didn't make it even though they were ordered to then it wasn't her problem.
"We're departing" She said and simultaneously used a Qi technique to make sure that everybody heard her.
With a thought she soared to the sky and at a slow pace flew towards their destination.
Not sparing a glance to make sure the disciples could keep up, her movements were so slow that if they couldn't then they wouldn't have been called to come.
The Core couldn't help but feel dissatisfied at the result of its hard work that didn't result in any answers to its question but rather a revelation about itself.
It wasn't very creative.
It looked over the image imprinted on its mind by The Foliage Shaper and couldn't really come up with a new discovery just from that so it decided to instead spend its time trying to figure out how to experiment with qi in a safe way.
Which is how it had the revelation.
It just couldn't think of an idea on how to go about it.
So it decided to do whatever it could come up with in regards to the Problematic Organs, to hopefully make some more progress.
But then it just ended up repeating what it did before with no new information.
In all regards The Core should have figured it out before, since it did just copy the example of floor themes inside the manual but it wasn't keen on introspection.
The fact that it even figured that out when it was trying to focus on something else could be considered a miracle that no one would appreciate.
