Chapter 9: The Unbreakable Wall

"Take care of the chest while we collect the mushrooms" The Crazy one replied while already walking towards a shroom, not quickening its pace at all.

Surely they weren't planning on carrying the same speed throughout the entire dungeon? The Core felt disgruntled at the thought.

The First One moved towards the dirt wall hiding the chest and punched it.

It failed, of course but the Invader seemed unusually surprised at that.

Didn't they know that the Dungeon walls cannot be destroyed? Or did they assume that the Adventurer manuals didn't include the strategy of breaking through dirt walls because their predecessors didn't think of it?

The First Invader tried again and subsequently failed. Again and again. Its punches were getting faster and faster and The Core hoped it could do the same to its legs when it finally got bored of this pointless task.

Why was it so fixated on destroying this one wall? The wall opened to reveal the chest mere 6 steps to the right, even if it would take it 20 steps and double the time it would still be more beneficial than this.

"Elder Zhao? What is the meaning of this?" The second one asked, looking nervous at its companions inane actions.

"Don't mention any of our names" Hissed The Crazy one towards the asker.

"Ah! Yes! This lowly one apologies! " The Second one then proceeded to get on the ground and smash its forehead against the floor towards the direction of the First One "I will accept whatever punishment The Esteemed Elder deems fit!"

"Get up! I don't sense any eyes on us so your blunder shouldn't have impacted this mission negatively" The First one shouted and when The Second One get up it added" Your punishment will be decided upon our return"

At that the Second One seemed to sag.

"I also don't feel any eyes, nonetheless a second blunder will result in a separation of your head and neck, consider yourself warned" The Crazy One added but instead of continuing the collection of Kieslina Shrooms it instead choose to take out its sword and slashed at the wall.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

  The result was predictable.

The Second one carried on with the slashing while muttering under its breath, "Strange, there seems to be no energy in these dirt walls but we cannot break through them?"

"We should try destroying the wall together" The First One said and executed a series of complicated moves that The Core couldn't put together at all before synchronising with The Crazy One and landing a punch right next to the point the sword user stabbed.

At this point The Core could feel a foreign energy try to enter its walls, it had no problem adsorbing it and moving it around to the entrance, effectively throwing it out.

It was still surprised that something had managed to pierce the dense mana layer surrounding any solid object in a dungeon that wasn’t meant to be taken however such incidents had been recorded before. This situation, at least, was far less severe than the case involving Abyssal Energy.

Nonetheless the fact that they potentially could and showed so much willingness to destroy its walls was in itself concerning, not because they could actually manage to do so in their lifetime but because they showed no respect for The Dungeon.

Didn't they understand the concept of give and take? They take the treasure while it takes their lives. It even had plans of leaving some of invaders alive so that more will be tempted! And none of that required destroying The Dungeon!

"Impossible..." The Second One whispered as it stared at the intact wall.

"This is concerning" The Crazy One then turned toward the Second One "Will you not help at all?"

At that The Second One flinched and immediately ran to punch the wall, showing that the slow exploration was a choice rather than a necessity.

The other members of the party joined in the attack. The result being the exact same as the one without the Second One weighting in.

"We need to report this immediately" The Crazy one said, staring at the pristine wall attentively.

"After spending so much time getting here you're telling me to leave right after entering? While we made minor progress with the mission? Are you getting senile at your old age?" The First one hardened his voice.

"I agree with Eld-I mean with him- We should immediately report this lest we be unable to later on" The Second one added, moving to position itself closer to The Crazy One.

There was a moment of silence as nobody talked nor moved and The Core wondered why nobody was beheading The Second One for its blunder. A death by another invader in its halls still counted after all.

"Fine! You two go with tails tucked between your legs! I intend to complete this mission with or without you!" The First one broke the silence and stomped off, faster than his first exploring speed but definitely slower than his fighting one.

The Crazy One sighed and turned towards the Second One, "We will be putting your assessment on the back burner for now, I take it you understand why?"

"Yes, don't worry" The Second One replied.

Together they made their way to the exit in under 10 seconds, while the opposite took them ages. The Core couldn't understand why they would willingly subject themselves to a plodding adventure, even though it knew that if they choose to use their maximum speed it would have likely crumbled today.

It also wanted to know why The First One wasn't using such speeds.
