Chapter 20: The Lower Floors

With a bit of grumbling from The Core about the non-living runes that refused to listen to it, it began improving the 6th floor.

A plain that offered no hiding space, with the exception of the numerous holes dug into the ground. They were exactly the size of the monsters residing here, so about two fingers wide.

They were covered by the nearby grass but since there were so many of them, some didn't make the cut and remained visible.

The monsters inhabiting this floor were bugs, specifically Mors Termites, who were there to further harass and maybe even kill the Invader after they were already tired from The Foliage Shaper's constant drain.

The Core didn't know how to improve this floor so it added some small rock imitating mimics in the form of Rock Grabbers, who would grab at the invader and surprise them for a second or two to give the bugs additional time.

And after a moment also Rusty Rock's, the poisonous rock monster who had many sharp edges. The Core didn't know how useful they would be in an environment where the opponents had shoes but it wasn't really sacrificing anything else by putting it here and maybe the invaders trip.

The entrance to the seventh floor was located at the end of the room and was visible from the beginning of it, unfortunately for the Invader it was a door mimic, which would try to eat anything that opened or tried to open it.

The True Door would only be unlocked if the mimic was killed. The Core upon implementing this was worried this would count as a boss but upon further reading the Manual it realised it counted as a monster trap because the Mimic wasn't strong enough to constitute being a boss.

The seventh floor had a cliff edge that you had to climb in order to reach the entrance to the 8th floor and also multiple flying monsters that were created with the sole purpose of throwing you off of it.

The bottom of the cliffside that an Invader would first see wasn't anything impressive since The Core couldn't be bothered with it, the only unique thing being that the ground the closest the cliff was muddy and the farthest had spikes.

On the Crag there were multiple sharp rocky surfaces, some of them Rusty Rock's so that hopefully when the Invaders had no other choice but to use them to climb higher they could bite its finger off.

There were also small trees upon which Diving Killer Bird rested. They were big bird monsters with sharp talons designed to heavily injure and maim with a beak that could be used to throw delvers on the spikes.

The Top of the cliff was simple as it only had the entrance to the 8th floor and nothing more.

The Core added Lesser Rain Spirits masquerading as clouds to mask the monsters inside the floor while also hiding how tall the cliff really is.

They can also manifest rain, making climbing up a crag more difficult.

The 8th floor was one where it experimented with humans and Qi, which meant that it had a plain free from Jungle Trees that wasn't intentionally made but rather a result of the more exploding experiments.

It wasn't big by any means but The Core couldn't be bothered to fix it before so it did so now, refilling it with plants.

The eight floor was a standard Jungle filled with poisonous plants and toxic monsters.

With the Iresul Frog being the deadliest of them all, only rivaled by the Roethen Heliconia, which unfortunately couldn't travel around the floor by virtue of being a flower.

The Core didn't know how to improve this floor at first since it was already a tripping hazard and when making it, it created all the poisonous plants and monsters it had available to fill it with.

Then it decided to add more harassers in the form of Ravaging SongBirds, which weren't psychical fighters nor poisonous but their singing could induce paranoia and confusion.

The entrance to the 9th floor was hidden somewhere at the end of the giant room, where it led to a fiery cavern that The Core made to imitate a cavity beneath a volcano, just like in the examples of the manual.

It was mainly inhabited by Fire Spirits and Lava Golems, with the sole Volcanic SwiftFish residing in the lava river that cut the room vertically in two.

There were many stalactites, stalagmites and pillars lowering the visibility along with the smoke that hung high on the ceiling.

The Visibility was already low and the terrain uneven so the Core decided to add more fire-resistant monsters, such as Flame Hound, Volatile Eyes and the like.

The exit to the 10th floor was located at the end and there was a barrier placed there to prevent the temperatures from evening out, hopefully resulting in a thermic shock.

The 10th floor housed The Core at its end, with a Lunar Bear acting as The Boss of this floor and also the final protector of it. She was also the only named monster in its dungeon, bearing the mantle of Nix, which further improves the monster's power when it's night, and it was always night on the final floor.

However unlike The Foliage Shaper it wasn't alone on this floor. Instead it had many helpers in the form of Lesser Winter Spirits and Snow Foxes.

There was a constant hail on this floor, thanks to the Lesser Winter Spirits and the ground laid thick snow that covered any holes.

The Core, once again summoned more monsters, such as Snow Mice, Rampaging Snow leopards and more.

They were then given orders to follow the Lunar Bear unquestionably. Although the Floor Boss wasn't the most intelligent monster it still was more clever than them and thus its defense force would benefit from it.

Although The Core doubted the Lunar Bear can do more than order them to attack all at once or dodge its own attacks and even that is uncertain.

Looking over its dungeon, The Core decided that the preparations were enough for the ensuing invasion.

Although it still went through its monster catalogue to find what it could have potentially missed.
